  • Why is my booty lopsided?? 😂🙊

Ok. It’s not always lopsided. It’s actually pretty symmetrical most days. But in the stretch for today’s #journeytosplits my booty is seriously lopsided. I look a few pics from all different angles and decided to post the one on Instagram that is the least funny looking.

I do try and stretch evenly…. But yes, everyone has a less flexy side, and the left is usually mine… So I’m guessing my right butt cheek looks lower because it’s deeper in the stretch and has more range of motion. I’m just curious if anyone knows what muscle or tendon it could be…

I’ll continue to stretch evenly, I’m just kind of curious and I find these things interesting. Love learning about anatomy.

Anyone else having one low hanging butt cheek? 😂🙊😂 hehehe.

It could be many things 🙂 (I know that’s a boring answer) but it looks like you are not engaging your core and are just sitting in the pose, which is going to highlight an asymmetries you have in your torso. In this pose your core should be very engaged. Your knees should be actively pressing into your elbows and your elbows should actively be pressing back into your knees. Basically I guess think of it as knees as a primary force and then the elbows are pushing back and using the hands to anchor against each other. This will really engage your root lock/mula bandha/pelvic floor muscles as well as strengthen your back 🙂 with a few breaths, it should also help the stretch feel deeper/fuller, and it should def make the pose more stable. This will likely make your booty appear less lopsided 🙂 its hard to tell with black yoga pants and just a front picture. A back picture would be more helpful with the spine and top of the hip bones exposed, as well as the bottom of the ribs. Really just a pic from the back in maybe a bra would be the most helpful, but still is hard to say without seeing it in person 🙂

When done correctly, that opposing motion creates seriously one of the best lower back releases ever 💆🏻

Thanks Lucca, I’ll see if I can grab a pic later!

I am enjoying the challenge but it’s not like the yoga challenges I’m used to with names of poses and instructions and demos. I’m judging the alignment of the pose from a tiny picture on the challenge art and what others who are doing the challenge have done….

It’s difficult and a few of the pics show different posture than the typical yoga postures I’m used to. (Like bending from the hips, or opening the chest, etc)

I have to say I def had that force between my elbows and knees happening…love hip openers! But I’m not sure I did engage my core enough after all.

I’m pigeon toed and it’s very difficult for me to turn my feet out and I think I was really struggling there… And forgetting to really breathe and engage.

I feel as though I was most actively engaged in the 1st picture but after browsing photos I felt like I should have been sitting more. Ugh. Yeah, I’ll probably go back to the kino/beachyoga challenges after this one 😛

I’ll keep at this posture too. Thank you for the advice.

I totally agreed with the little pictures and whatnot. I enjoy practicable and Kinoyoga better with their demonstrations. The pole challenge I am doing this month is kind of that way too

Yes! Here was a side angle,., (I told you I shot it from a bunch of angles) but then I looked again at the demo pic and I felt like she was more compact and less upright… While I was pressing and trying to lengthen my spine the demo pic looked more rounded… So then I tried to do it more like that. Anyway… Now I’m just venting about not having demos which is silly because it’s a voluntary free challenge that I’m actually enjoying. Haha

I don’t have the ‘right’ answer too, but I guess it’s something common like asymmetrical boobs?

Maybe one ligament or muscle can stretch more than the other?

On a very unrelated side note, this pose reminds me of this article from buzzfeed.

Yeah, I had my husband watch me do it… and he said I’m def going deeper on the right side and even leaning that way… with some concentration I can even it out but I def feel the stretch more on my left then. 🙂
