Words of Wisdom!!!!
Posted by Amberfinn09 on February 4, 2011 at 6:16 pmHey all!!!! My name is Amber and I am new to the pole scene, but very excited to progress in the art!!!I just put my X-pert pole up on Wednesday and am attending classes at a local siren fitness. I was just wondering if anyone had any words of wisdom such as specific stretches that are best, specific clothing to wear, best videos to use (bespun, etc.), recommended songs to practice to, basically just anything you would like to share!!!!
Thanks everyone!!

Yay! You're not that far from me!
What type of music do you usually like? I find that dubstep or trip hop really does it for me as far as dancing goes (also the blues), but everyone is different!
Target has a great sale right now on hipster boyshorts; I mostly wear those because they cover you up but give you great contact with the pole.

I love all kinds of music really! Great ideas for music! I will have to check out target for some boy shorts! I started wearing capris, but now I am doing more climbing on the pole and new spins which are requiring more skin contact. Sooo how long have you been "poling" ? Are you self taught or did you do classes?

If your looking for lessons at home I have a big selection here. 🙂 Stretches and strength for pole are include in the lessons as well as routines. I like to wear poleskivvies shorts when I dance.

Veena's lessons are fantastic, even if you already take classes. They can help you get a move that you just can't get in class, and they can also remind you of how to do a move if you forget. I had classes with PoleKat, one of the most talented dancers I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I also have a really good support group of friends to work out with–I learn so much more quickly that way!
Do you have a spinning pole or just static? I find that the style of music can vary depending on which one you're using. For instance, for spinning, I might dance to Zed's Dead remix of a trip hop song. For static, I might go with something simple like Madonna's "Vogue."

I am hoping to start veena's lessons soon too. As of right now AF finance keeps screwing up my husbands pay while he's been on this TDY so I don't want to start anything more that costs money until things get figured out with finance. As of right now the money I am making is being put back so we can fix our second car (I have an 86 dodge daytona shelby that needs a new transmission). Annnnyways……I have a static/spinning pole. I chose the xpert pole because it does both and once I get more advanced I would like to have the option. I tried the spinning pole in class last week and it was CRAZY! Don't think I'm quite ready for that.lol I just recently found out my wrist is reinjured so I have to wear a splint for 3weeks so I am not doing a whole lot right now either, but I can't wait to get back at it all the way!!!! I am hoping by the time my husband comes home in March I will be good enough to do some sexy routines 😉
I have never heard of Zed's Dead…I will have to check them out! thanks!

Hi There!
I am sure you will enjoy pole. It's a fantastic sport! I have found the best things I have done are to spend time in the gym working on my shoulder and ab strength – but I suppose it doesn't need to be in the gym – something like hanging knee raises and front raises with weights could be just as helpful. also, when starting out you may have to work on your grip strength so the above helps with those too. you may need to use a grip-aid for the first weeny while, there are lots out there but as you get used to the pole you should need it less. Another thing i spent time doing when I first started was doing handstands against a wall – helps with shoulder strength, gives you the feel of being upside-down and so when you come to do a hand stand mount or dismount it will be a piece of cake! Can't give any flexibility tips I'm afraid – I am hopelessly miles away from being flexible enough! Have fun…

Always warm up before getting on the pole and get a good regular stretching routine going. If you injure any part of you go easy till it heals and see a physio if you can.
A little obvious I know but thats all I got.
