X-Pole Build-a-Pole program
Hi everyone! I’m opening up a new pole dance studio (yay!) and I was considering using X-Pole’s Build-a-Pole poles. Has anyone used their build-a-pole? If so, how tall are your poles? Mine will be 13′ at the tallest. How do you like them?

I’m intrigued – I didn’t realise x pole did ‘ build a pole ‘ – I’ve got a stage and two average poles but would like a taller one – I was under the impression you had to have it specially made ? Can you tell me more ? X

After talking with X-pole about this program, this is what I know. The poles start at 10′, and from there you can purchase any extension up to 3 1/2′ to fit your ceiling. The poles are industrial strength, secured in a ceiling and floor housing, and use the x-joint to connect the pieces. I was considering this option instead of a one piece cut to size, so in the event, I move locations, I can take the poles with me, rather than buying new ones to fit new ceilings. I just wanted to know if anyone used them yet.

I use these in my studio. I have 12 foot 45mm poles. I use them in the standard ball ceiling mounts and I have the competition bases. The competition bases allow you to permanently attaxh the base to the floor. I can put mine up and down with ease. I had issues with the very top extension and fitting it into the mounts- it got damaged after putting them up twice. My husband fixed the extensions by grinding down the metal with a metal filer and drill for a smooth finish. I also grease the tops for easy mounting into the ball mounts. Setup takes about 5 minutes. The poles are heavy- estimated over 100 lbs each. (They feel lighter the more you take down and put up). I am VERY happy with my poles. Every issue I’ve had (scratches in the poles themselves and the top extension damage/locking up joints) Xpole has been awesome and replaced promptly with no additional charge on my end. Customer service alone has made this a worth while investment. The poles are chrome finish so you really have to be diligent about no rings or scratchable items that students might wear.

I also forgot to mention, Xpole does a pole away system for the build a poles. I you have the means to do this, you use the vaulted ceiling mounts and a hideaway ceiling mounting system that allows you to store the poles in one piece on the ceiling all while freeing up your dance space for other classes/studio use. Cuts down on take down/setup time.

Thanks Kobajo84 for your feedback! Yes, Xpole did explain about being able to take down the poles if more floor space is needed for another class/event, etc. But I’m not sure i understand what you mean by the hideaway system? do the poles like fold up into the ceiling in one piece? lol? Also, could you please go into a little more detail about the top extension getting damaged by the x-joint, x-joint issue, etc.?

ah hah! That’s actually what i pictured in my mind. But if you use that hideaway system, are the poles not bolted to the floor…?

They are not. They are pressure mounted, so you would twist the pole just like the xpert home poles to make them stable to the floor.

Ok, I attached the photo I told you about. The first photo is of the top extension that goes into the ceiling mount. The second photo is how the damaged piece was fitting into the mount after it mushroomed on the top and acquired the grooved ring around the top where my finger is pointing. The metal got pushed down and created a thickening where the metal looks mushroomed and prevented it from going into the permanent ceiling ball mount. My husband was able to fix the extensions by using a metal file to reshape the damaged extension. We weren’t sure if this was going to work so Xpole rush delivered replacements. It ended up working so I have replacements for back up now. These extensions are what I put a thin layer of grease on to help them slide easily into the ceiling mounts.

The X-Pole development department has seen the thread and the photo’s of the ‘Top Insert’ with the mushroomed top shaft.
X-Pole has 11 of these inserts with PoleAway in our own studio as well as having fitted many others and have never seen markings like that before! Yes we have seen damaged ends if the insert is dropped or banged (the tolerances are high on this part) but never that mushrooming like that. We are at a loss as to how it has happened especially as this looks like pressure marking which shouldnot happen as the ball is able to rotate.
It also appears from the photo that the insert on the left has a curved top – that is not correct. The inserts are supplied with a screw and washer fixed on the top for the PoleAway system (to fix the insert into the mount so it cannot be removed) and that is curved but with this removed the top should be flat.
X-Pole is always looking to improve an update its products and so we would be grateful for some more photos, taken from different angles, to be sent to the UK Tech Team for evaluation.

Yes yes, issue was resolved in July. Xpole UK was wanting further information for their tech team. 🙂
