Sounds like you are not aligning the screws on the flat part of the pole then. They MUST be on the flat surface when you screw them in. That's how it keep's the pole locked in place.

I believe there may be a couple different versions of the X-Pert adjuster, I have attached a picture of the current one to my profile you can view it here https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_photo/4f21cc1c-b7cc-432a-a3c6-17130ac37250
In the picture you will see just above the threads that lock the adjuster cover in place the hex nuts that lock the adjuster bolt. While only one is visible there are three, one for each flat surface of the adjuster bolt. If you do not tighten them over the flat areas of the bolt they will in fact stick out of the pole, you also risk damaging the threads of the adjuster rod so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tighten them over the flat areas as the instructions say.
Just below the adjuster bolt you will see a set of smaller hex nuts that lock the adjuster into the bottom of the pole. NEVER NEVER NEVER remove these unless you have need to replace the adjuster rod.
Finally, covered by the open adjuster cover, in this picture and at the very bottom of the pole are two locking hex nuts that are responsible for putting the pole in spin or locking it in static. These should always be tightened when the nuts are aligned with the X's on the floor plate.

For Chemgoddess: video on "difference between sport and x-pert pole" from xpole site shows on the Xpert that the adjuster rod cover drops down to the bottom of the pole, the 3 screws are above this cover, and you and you screw the cover back up into the pole after adjusting. Hope that helps paint a picture…. http://xpoleus.com/store/index.php?main_page=page&id=16

Gotcha. I am home now and looked at my pole. For some reason I was thinking that the 3 screws ended up getting covered.
Dwiizie, my company blocks all video so i would not have been able to wathc that anyway. Thanks.
So, Nikki, did we help you or just confuse you even more?
