  • X pole vs. lil mynx questions

Hi guys! So I've been dancing for a few months now. I bought my own pole and decided to learn online at home as there are no pole classes offered anywhere near me.  I bought a lil mynx rotating powder coat pole as my first pole and I really love it. The only problem I'm having with it is that it's just a little too grippy. It's fine for climbing and on the pole tricks like CKR, CAR, etc. But anything where I am putting the back off my knees against the pole is really painful because my skin sticks so much. Also, stationary spins seem to be a lot harder because my hands don't slide around the pole as easily.

I've been thinking about possibly buying an X Pole X pert, maybe in stainless steel, to have as a second pole, but I have a few questions. What do you guys think of the difference in powder coat vs. stainless steel? Like I said, there are no studios near me, so I can't test anything out before I buy it, unfortunately. Do you think stainless steel would help me keep from tearing skin, but still be sticky enough to climb, do CKR, CAR, etc? I've also heard that the X Pole Xpert spins faster and smoother in spinning mode than the lil mynx rotator. Is this true at all? Mine does seem to spin fairly slow, but it's not really a problem. Also, the ceiling in my current rental house is fairly short (about 7'2'' so I had to have my lil mynx custom made shorter to fit. Does X pole make shorter poles (websites says ceiling heights 7'4'' to 9''). And if they do make shorter poles will I be able to somehow get extensions to make it fit a higher ceiling when I move. I already kind of expect that my lil mynx may not fit the ceiling in my next rental, but I don't want to buy a second pole that won't fit a higher ceiling later, either because I don't necessarily want to be forced to buy a 3rd pole when I move next year.

Any advice on all this would be helpful, thank you! 🙂

I don't think x pole offers stainles anymore, but you could always get chrome. How you react to any of the materials will vary. I grip too much on powder coated and brass. Titanium and chrome can still be too grippy but if I am good and sweaty, I will slide off. Stainless grips me the least, but it can be remedied with grip aids. Stainless is the best for spins IMO as your hands can glide easily down the pole.

I found the torque of the lilmynx rotator to be stronger than the xpole and PS poles.

You're right, I actually was thinking chrome, not stainless lol. Is there a big difference in stainless vs. chrome? Is chrome grippier? I'm basically looking for something just a little less grippy than powder coat, but not a ton slicker.

chrome is much slicker than PC, but not horribly so (for me at least.) TG is grippier than chrome for most people, but not as grippy as PC. TG warms up a little faster than chrome. I think TG or chrome are good, but some girls like TG more for the extra grip. I personally feel it is easier to add grip with grip aids, but if you get a pole with too much grip, there isn't anything byou can do (as you now realize.)

Yeah, I'm thinking I will probably go with the chrome. I already have one very grippy pole, so I think  I'd rather go with the slicker option rather than end up with the same issue I'm having now.

I just need to figure out if I were to get one for my low ceiling, would I be able to get extensions to adjust it to fit a much taller ceiling when I move, because I don't plan on staying in the house I'm in now for more than a year.

call x pole and tell them your ceiling height. They will be able to tell you what extension you need to get that low.

Alright, I just talked to them and I can get the proper extension pieces to make it fit. Thanks so much for all your help!

I have used both power coated and chrome poles, and found that the chrome poles are much easier for spins. The chrome pole can be much more slick during tricks, but just add a bit of grip aid and you should be fine. I use Itac on my chrome X pole at home and I find it easy to do everything from spins to tricks and if it gets too sticky/grippy it's easy to wipe off.

i hav a lilmynx and xpole brass, i had a hard time with superman on the lilmynx ive heard ss is very slick so slick its hard to even pole, but everyone is diff so trying it is the only way of knowing it itll b too slick. i also have a brass xpole and i love it even more than the powdercoat, its awesome because it gives grip where u need it and allows sliding for when u need that, at least it does for me anyways!
