  • Xpole – Brandering in between joist and ceiling??

Posted by annasmith on September 2, 2015 at 11:18 am

    Hi all!!

I have just purchased an Xpole XXpert but I’m struggling to understand how to put it up with my ceiling.

I seem to have a layer of wooden brandering in between the ceiling and the joist, so my Xpole can’t be pressured right against the joist?? Would it affect the stability if I still place it over the joist but it isn’t touching the joist?

I don’t know if this makes an sense haha.

I’ve attached a photograph with wooden branding under the joist to kind of give you guys an idea of what I mean.

Would really appreciate your advice!! I’m so eager to put my pole up!!

    Dear AnnaSmith,

Please take some time to view this video: https://youtu.be/A3Q_CHwOw3g which will detail the installation process when assembling the pole under a joist. In answer to your question, the stability should not be affected as long as it is under the joist, but not directly in contact. As I understand, the layer of wooden brandering will be in touch with the upper dome.

Hope I have understood your query correctly and hope this helps with your installation.

Please let me know how you get along.

    Thanks,
    Kash

    Hi Kash!!

Thank you so much for your reply!

I have watched the video of the installation process. My only problem is that I can’t locate where the joist is by knocking on the ceiling, as the solid “sound” I hear is the wooden brandering (as the joist is not touching the ceiling directly). And I don’t think the brandering is strong enough on its own to support the pole.

I guess I will probably have to climb into the roof to see where the joists are located on top of the brandering.

So just to double check, if I install my pole against the brandering which is underneath a joist, it should be secure (even if it’s not touching the joist directly)?

Sorry for my silly questions, I’m just super paranoid about my pole falling down or damaging the ceiling.

    Thanks in advance! 🙂

    Hi Anna Smith,

    You are most welcome.
The joist and the wooden brandering that you refer to must be touching one another – is this the case?
From your image, I am making the assumption that the wooden joists or beams, have had a wooden layer nailed to them, which forms your ceiling – please clarify…
Climbing to get a better idea of where the joists are located would be a good – please be safe and make sure you have someone else helping you with the ladder, etc.
If you wish to take a quick video on your smart phone and send it over to my email address, I could assess your installation setting in more detail – you can do this to marketing@xpole.co.uk

    Hi Kash!

Yes that is exactly it.. A wooden layer nailed to the joists.

I have contacted X-pole SA to try and get some help. Hopefully they can help with a solution.

Thanks for your answers/help thus far, and will contact you if I still don’t come right 🙂
