Yet another “can’t find the joist” question :(
Hello everyone,
I cannot find any beams/joists in my ceiling anywhere. I have read older post regarding this already, but non of the solutions/tips worked for me this far. Hopefully someone can help me out as my brand new pole has been lying in it’s box for almost 2 weeks already without being used :'(
Knocking on the ceiling is not working, I can’t hear any difference between hollow and beams (neither can the 3 friends I have asked to help). We found a few spots that sounded less hollow, but banging in nails proved there was no joist at all. I started knocking from the walls inward, but couldn’t find anything. I have plaster ceiling, so stud-finders are not working either. I live in a single floor house with a flat roof, so no attic to take a peek at the floor. The housing cooperation where I am renting have no idea about the ceiling, they could only tell me that the joists are (about) 60cm apart (23.5inc) and that it is definitely not a suspended ceiling (but where the fudge are the joists then??!!)
I’m starting to think that the joists are so thin that I just keep missing them. Is that possible?
My dad and I came up with a plan though, but I would like to have some more pole expert advice on that. We are thinking to take a piece of plywood of 1.20cm (so that the wood always crosses over two joists) and attaching this to the ceiling with special hollow wall plugs (togglers), and then mount the pole on the plywood. Will this be sufficient to distribute the weight on the ceiling and prevent serious damage?
I hope soon I can start poling in my own home 🙂
