  • Yoga Direct 4in. vs. 5in. Pole mat…is there a big difference???

Hey Veeners!!! I have a really quick question. I am looking to purchase a pole mat from Yoga Direct and was unsure whether there was a big difference between the 4in. or 5in. mats. I would like a 5×5 in pink but they are on back order and the only pink they have is 5×4.  I know it is like a $40 difference but I was wondering if you can actually feel the difference between the 1 in. difference in thickness.  Is it worth getting the 4in. Or just waiting it out or the 5in.  Your response is greatly appreciated…. Thanks 😄

I always thought the bigger the better. I purchased mine in 5 inch and it cushions me well. I did fall 10 feet when I 1st started learning the spinning scorpio and I came out of it without a scratch. Before I purchased the 5 inch from yoga direct, I was using 4 couch cushions that was approx 4 inch which did the job also. I would wait it out for the extra $40 and extra inch of safety.

Also, Only If you plan on poling with heels on, make sure you purchase the canvas cover. So worth it. I use my spiky heel directly on it with no problem. My friend did not purchase a cover and forgot to take her stillitoes off one time and dug several  hole in it.

i have the 5 inch thick mat from them & i love it! i would say go for the 5 inch just because it's safer. i haven't used the 4 inch one so i can't say about the differences. my first pole room was over cement floor (carpet over that)  & i couldn't feel any hard floor when i have "crashed" into my 5in crash mat. if you are not poling over cement the 4 inch would probably be fine though. i'm sure they are both great!

I've got a 6 inch crash mat from a U.K. company and I too was debating whether to pay more for the thicker one, or to get the 4 inch one, I've only crashed a couple of times but felt nothing and my floor is concrete with just cushion flooring so it def saved me, go for the 5 inch if you can.

Thanks so much for the advice ladies….. I definitely don't mind spending the extra $40 for safety.  Your input has been very helpful 😄  The waiting begins …….

I have the 5… I have never fallen and even gotten close to feeling the floor underneath. With the pretty thick foam that they use, I would say 1" doesn't make much of a difference and would make it less bulky. It feels like a very comfy mattress… I think you'd have to fall pretty fast and hard from very high up to need that extra inch. I would not buy the small one though.
