Yogini prep
Posted by minicoopergrl on September 3, 2010 at 10:25 amAny tips for prepping to do a yogini? ive been working on the pose on the floor to get my body comfortable in that pose, but when you factor in a pole wedged in my armpit, doesnt seem to work. Ive tried to do it w/o climbing and I still cant get it. When I do the pose on the floor, I do have a tendency to grab quickly and at my ankles (im normally in reg shoes when I do it).

I think working on rocketman might help in getting used to that armpit hold:

Stellar is really good at breaking down this move. He taught it to Luvlee rather quickly.

I did my first attempts from standing on the floor without success. And found it easier from up on the pole. I like to get into it from a pole sit, then I lean forward and get the pole into my armpit. Then I grab the pole with my left hand while I grab my right foot with right hand. Then I extend my right foot as much as I can until I feel the grip with my armpit and hip and then I grab the left foot with left hand and extend your legs and arch my back as much as possible.
I do it in this video close to the middle of the song. http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4563

get srunchy…..lol while in your pole sit make sure your tucking the body in and not straightening it up tall, you’ll get a better grip on the pole….its really helpful if your a taller poler. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I have just got the Yogini and Rocketman/girl. I started off going into it from the floor, wedgingthe pole into my right armpit the putting my left hand below on the pole thumb down. Then I lifted my right leg off floor and felt the burn, then eventualy I took my left leg off, and then I took off my left hand and grabbed my ankles with the corresponding hands. So you have the armpit grip, and part of ther inner arm, and also the side of your body too, in my case the right side.
I find it helps if you are already quite warmed up for this move. I now can do it from a pole sit which is much easier, and when you are higher up you can then go into rocketman/girl from it. The pain lessens the more you do it, like any move. I also found that this kind of grip helped me with the teddy too. Good luck with it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

We tried this in class last week..I think i was the only one who was too chicken to climb the pole and do it lol..half of the class go it and i was paranoid of the pole burn that was going to happen when i finally lifted my left leg off the ground! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I guess its something that you just have to learn to say the hell with the burn and keep working on..The ladies seem to give great advice here tho, so i may work up the courage and try it up the pole instead of trying to do it off the floor lol

Megs you could always try an alcahollic drink 1st! Will numb the pole burn!

Oh E… I didn’t mean taller polers have it easier with this one….I meant its especially important for taller pole dancers to tuck (get scrunchy) otherwise the body wont have the correct P.O.C. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

when i first started doing this one, i held a lot of the weight on my side instead of the armpit. after a couple days, your armpit will get used to it, and you can put more weight in it then!
