  • Your Ideas for Pole Danceing (as a competitive sport)

There was a thread like this on the RG forum I'm part of and it was a really interesting topic so I thought I would start a similar one here. What are your ideas for the sport of Pole Dance? ie: Rules, Code of Points, Events ect.

For me I would like to see our competition rules line up better with other artistic sports like Rhythmic Gymnastics, Gymnastics and Figureskating. ESPECIALLY in terms of apparal and presentation. for example the following is from the the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics rules

    1. Leotard
    a. Skirts are allowed in the J.O. program according to FIG specifications. Clarification: Skirts should
be no longer than upper thigh.
    b. A correct gymnastic leotard in non-transparent material: therefore, leotards which have some part
in lace will have to be lined (in the area of the trunk).
    c. The neckline of the front and back of the leotard must be proper (no more than half of the sternum,
no more than at the lower line of the shoulder blades).
    d. Leotards may be with or without sleeves but dance leotards with narrow straps are not allowed.

    e. The cut of the leotard at the top of the legs must not go beyond the fold of the crotch (maximum)

Or like this from The FEI Equestrian Vaulting Rules

715.2.5 In keeping with the General Regulations, dress must not give the effect of nudity.
715.2.6 Dress must be formfitting and all articles of clothing, or parts thereof, must remain attached to the vaulter‟s body at all times. Accessories (not limited to but including belts, masks, jewellry) and props (not limited to but including hats, capes, canes, gadgets) are strictly forbidden in the arena.

I don't think jewlery is a much of a risk in Pole dance as it is in Vaulting (largely becuse there isn't really anything to catch your earings/necklace on. … but I do think that a similar rule about props would be nice. (not that you can't use props in a performance to be clear, just that you can't have them in competitions.)

The second thing I would like to see is a Code of Points developed.  There are well documented lists of pole dance skills and lots of people have even sorted them into groupings of level of diffuculty. I don't think it would be that much harder to assign values to them for competitions. Thats not to say you could only do moves from the COP in your routeins. There are lots of original elements in the other sports I mentioned. 😀

Thirdly: More international Comptitions: not every international event has to be a world or contenintal championships. It would be nice to have something similar to Vaulting's CVI* (an entry level international competition for those who are not quite world championship level but are still quite good.)  Or even a World Cup circut?

But from my understanding of what I've been reading on the ISPF's website these kind of things are all in the process of happening tho. Althought I do hope the publish the international compeition rules….
