a question about hoops
I have a polypro by moodhoops and it is really beautiful and lightweight. The 2 ends however dont meet flush together when joined. Ive emailed them and maybe I will hear back on Monday. Anyone ever have this issue? I have 2 other hoops that have the taping and they are a wider diameter (i dont know all of the terminology etc) but their ends come together. It also isn’t a complete “circle” yet but I believe that it will shape up in a few days. It is sort of flat in the area where the 2 ends meet. Thanks. I thought I would practice some while Im waiting for my SECOND foot stress fracture to heal.

It is very hard to get the ends to completely meet–a small gap is normal–but it shouldn’t be a huge gap…is it? The flat side is normal too and should round out–I gently roll my hoops on the floor and try to round out the flat side. I very, very gently apply some pressure to squish the hoop down (it’s standing ‘upright’) to help round it, if that makes sense.

I assume this is a straight poly hoop and not one of their LEDs. When my hoops get wonky in shape, I heat them up with a hairdryer, leave them out in the sun/hot car, or even soak them in the bathtub with hot water. This makes the plastic malleable and you can then shape it into it’s normal circle. Also, most collapsible hoops do have a small gap; all of the ones I have made and bought do. As long as the edges aren’t scratching you, I think it should be ok.

The hoop that I have can collapse, but generally circles like to stay circles. If your hoop has been folded or bent in any way for shipping or storage, it will take some time to get back into normal circle shape. You can just kind of bend and stretch it a bit, allowing the places where it’s slightly warped to reseat into their natural, circular position.
And, as Goddess KK says, many hoops that are collapsible have a small gap. This is because they’re intended to twist within those connection points, and if they touched together perfectly, that twisting into a collapsed shape would be extremely difficult.
I’m not sure if I agree with heating it up, though. This can be effective, but you’d have to be very careful with it. I’ve seen enough heated plastic and Polypro stuff to know how super easy it is to damage, break, or irreparably bend in the way you don’t want. Though, if it is really just a shaping issue and not a seating/settling issue, then yeah, heat will help you bend into the shape you want.
