I’m going to have to give that Vega stuff a try. I’ve been using the NOW brand egg-white protein and I like it well enough. It seems like it’s hard to find the protein powder that doesn’t have weird artificial sweeteners.. (sucralose, aspartame) which, I’m no chemist, but I’m pretty sure they are about one molecule away from being plastic and give you cancer or something hahaha. Also, the hubs is lactose intolerant so he can’t do most whey protein powders because they aren’t pure.
Thanks for the suggestion Veena! -

We dont have wholefoods here in scotland il try amazon thanks !

Yes it is sooo hard to find something without all the additives the closest I’ve got is RAW brand I like the cocoa flavor though for most it is probably a little gritty and acquired taste

I’m also supppperrrr sensitive to sweeteners. I tried a bunch of samples from whole foods including the Vega ones but I just can’t stomach stevia. I realize it’s natural but I’d rather have sugar or agave…. Or no sweeteners at all, and I’d add my own.

For those of you not sensitive to sweeteners or particularly carb concerned….synthe 6 protein drinks are pretty delicious (if not TOO sweet but seriously they taste like a milk shake when mixed in milk) and ISNT asty to make protein pancakes with and stuff. I noticed a considerable increase in stamina and strength after doing the syntha6 shakes and I dunno if it’s just cuz I was generally protein deficient or what but it has amino acids and stuff so maybe that helps? (sorry, showing my ignorance!) I tried veggie based powders/pea protein and they all just kinda messed with my stomach but im sure it had more to do with the brands cuz seriously protein drinks vary SO much in quality

What if you don’t want to drink protein and juice? I train/pole/yoga between 20 min and 2 hours daily 6 days a week but I don’t use any protein supplement at all. I just eat protein instead.
So – full fat Greek live yogurt with raw almonds and seeds and berries for breakfast with cups of tea and coffee
Half a chicken with raw spinach and tomatoes and olive oil for lunch, or ham and spinach omelette
Apple, raw nuts and cheese, or carrot and broccoli crudités plus hummus snack if hungry (but I rarely am)
Shrimp/ fish/chicken/steak/plus broccoli and peas and spinach for dinner
And a glass of dry wine; that’s it. I take a vitamin and cod liver oil when I remember. Should I take extra protein? I hate the idea of drinking shakes; they make me gag and find juices are too sweet and and make me hyper then crash. And I don’t like sweet things so vanilla, choc etc flavoured supplements taste awful to me.
I grew up in a family where it was the norm to walk/cycle everywhere then walk dogs 5 miles twice daily, then ride and muck out 3 horses, carry hay bales, clean tack, mend gates and
push wheelbarrows about, then cycle 4 miles home and eat, then go to dance class then walk/run 3 miles home again and nobody ever thought they needed protein supplements: so the idea of a special drink after an hour poling and stretching feels weird to me! -
Eh you probably don’t, I do my protein shake BEFORE i pole just cuz the extra energy helps get me through (especially when I have time and do marathons 2-3 hour sessions…or when I’m being misbehaved….) otherwise I’m too hungry halfway through to focus and stopping to eat and then starting back up again is a bummer. And it’s “sustained release” so maybe that’s why it’s helpful during sessions? Not sure. It really is just a supplement and takes the place of when I’m hungry but don’t have time to eat (would rather get straight to poling or am running late for school) I LOATHE protein bars and eating my hard boiled eggs quick fix it doesn’t provide the carbo load I need, and even paired with fruit the fruit boost does not seem to last too lobg. So who knows if I NEED it but it’s very convenient and a huge time saver. And my shake is not fully protein based/there are a lot of carbs in it for a “protein” drink, and a lot of people dislike that aspect of the product for that reason but it serves my purposes wonderfully. If you don’t feel like you need it you probably don’t, I started it up when I was poling/lifting weights/running/school/work and my time was incredibly limited and calorie demand was incredibly high. It’s stuck around since then out of convenience. There’s lots of debate on how good it is for you too just cuz super protein rich diets can be really rough on your liver and kidneys

Oh I need to read all this more thoroughly… But if anyone is looking for a recovery drink I love Accelerade. It contains the right ratio of carbs to protein to replenish you muscles. I love it. It’s basically the same (another company) as Beach Body’s recovery drink they recommend for P90X. Some people may be put off by the sugar… And it’s not like I drink it everyday, only if I’m doing one of those 3 hour sweaty pole sessions. Ill even drink it during those sessions.
Also Orange is the best.I also want to recommend bodybuilding.com for recommendations and reviews of every shake or drink. They even have taste ratings. It’s very helpful.
Love you guys! Fun discussion

I Use 1/4 cup of oatmeal, 2 tablespoons flax seeds, 2 tablespoons hemp hearts/seeds, 1 tablespoon chia seeds. I combine those ingredients and grind them up. (I make up a bunch for the week and store it in little containers). I always use a banana and then I add frozen fruit (maybe 1/4 cup) and milk (regular, almond, or any kind).
