constant dull ache in my arms almost carpal tunnel feeling

It will probably get better – just be careful and give it lots of rest. Those little forearm muscles get a big workout! I found it helpful to place a tennis ball on a table, and roll my forearms over it, pressing into the muscles and attachments. Ice packs are your friend, too. When I started doing ‘split’ grips I was getting intense pain that would last for days, the pain felt like it infiltrated my bones and would ache. It wasn’t like a typical muscle ache. I ended up deciding it was something like tendonitis. I stopped doing the moves that caused me pain and it got better. I try occasionally to do the moves again, but it still hurts a little bit so I don’t push it. My instructors all said I was doing the moves right. I think some people are prone to this type of pain/injury. My arms are long and lean. I am hoping when I get stronger I will be able to do these moves.
No one else at my studio had the same problem and the instructors were baffled. I tried to find some posts about this from the summer but i can’t find them.

I get the EXACT same thing,dull achey throbbing deep into the bone after doing certain moves that put alot of strain on my forearms or wrists. No one else knew what i was talking about so thank god its not just me! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I used to have quite weak wrists (or wrist muscles) they are very small and thin so it took me a while to master things like the carousel and boomerang were your wrist and arm are taking some of your weight and pushing your body away from the pole. Iv been doing this move for years and i still sometimes get the dull bone ache all the way from my wrist to my elbow hrs after poling. Same with the reverse pinwheel (or helterskelter as i call it) i let my left arm take my weight and grab behind me with the right…well the left forearm also gets the dull bone ache as well now. I dont know if this ever goes away i know im doing these moves 100 correct as iv been doing em for years and several instructors have clarified that. All i can think of is its the way im made. Before i started poling and even sometimes now i get the same ache when iv very cold bizarrely enough! (someone said this is called rhumatics??) It aches deep from my ankles to my knees and from my wrists to my elbows. Iv always had it ever since i was little and now i get the same ache with poleing..weird huh? This does happen to many pole dancers! You are not odd in anyway https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif This is why I do not consider most spins beginner moves!!! Split grips can be one on the worst culprits, (they don’t have to be if done properly) I believe that for your body to handle the demands of most spins you need to have a better foundation before you start to perform them. Now, for some who has a very physically active background, forearm strength and over all body strength isn’t always a problem, but if you talking about someone who is new to pole and exercise then… preparing the body for pole is the safest way to start. This is way I suggest you approach my new lessons… I recommend that new polers start with the strength moves and THEN move on to beginner moves. You can check out my new free sample video on the front page, to hear my suggestions. Spins are VERY demanding on the body. When you have a pain that doesn’t go away….(its normal to be sore and stiff), but it has become a constant dull or sharp pain, is a sign the you need to REST. Rest and look into some strength work with your pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I had this problem when I first started doing inverts and more advanced spins and climbs. It was absolutely horrible. I would rest for a few days and take some Aleve before I danced. As my muscles gradually adjusted and grew stronger though, the pain went away and I don’t have the problem any longer.

I got this when I first started pole, but the good news is it did go away for me pretty quickly as I started to pole more then once a week https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Hope the same is for you. hey guys i see what your saying and it makes sense,but iv been poling for abt 3 or 4 years ( i was also a professional dancer in a club as well for a time) This pain has never went away for me,so iv kinda learned to live with it. Although im slow to learn moves id say im pretty advanced (although not as advanced as i want to or prob should be https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif ) Do you think its maybe because when i was learning as a beginner i didnt properly prepair my muscles hence the arm pain i still get to this day?? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Amber, this might sound like a weird question, but do your elbows hyperextend? When you straighten them out as much as you can do they bend backwards? Mine do, and one of my teachers suggested that I always keep a slight bend in my elbows during my split grips – that’s helped a lot. Even though my forearms are strong now, if I hyperextend them that’s when I get the achy feelings now.

I cannot grasp things or lift things its really bad and I have been avoiding any an all exercise and movements which use these tendons but the pain is getting worse and I almost cannot close my hand so I am going to give it a couple more days of abstaining from poling and workouts and if it does not start to improve…off to the Dr. I go https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Hi i dont think my elbows hyperextend,although i have a friend whos does!! its the coolest thing iv seen! Nah mind seem pretty straight. Think i may just have really crap weak wrists and forearms. Was never able to do a catterpillar using the forearm grip either i could pull myself up but i couldnt hold it for long and it never felt secure. find an elbow grip works best for me….so yeh my forearms prob are a bit weak.
