difficulty with the v-sit, wrist sit, hello boys
Posted by XxMissPrissxX on June 27, 2012 at 9:27 pmHi Ladies!
Im having a hard time with the V-sit (or wrist sit, or hello boys whichever you like to call it) Once i get into my pole sit im having a hard time getting my arm up under my bum. If i do get that far, i find myself sliding so much i dont have time to lift my legs. Im pretty sure my grip is strong enough because i can hold myself up in other moves easily enough. Any tips?

Not sure, I know I have to lean back quite a bit and doing so, my rump rolls over my hand a little, instead up me trying to push my hand up into place.

Thanks Lyme. Maybe ill try leaning back more… Im confused about the top arm too. Should i be pulling my body up? or pulling toward the pole to push my bum against it?

I wrote a blog entry about it, maybe it will help you? 🙂 the feeling of "my bottom arm is too short to possibly reach the pole" is natural, but there's an easy fix! and i talk about the top arm as well 🙂

Thank you Amy! That clears it up some! Im going to tryagain in class next week. Hopefully with this info, i can land it!

Make sure your pole sit isn't too high up on the thighs…Place the top hand around chest level and also try opening the legs one at a time instead of together. Here is the lesson if your interested. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

You have lots of awesome advice from amazing dancers above, I thought I could still chip in the thoughts of a beginner though and perhaps you will find some merit in another beginner’s thought process:
It helped me to think more about pulling back than holding myself up. It also helped me to think about not lining my kooka up with the pole and instead lining one butt cheek up! I also felt more secure sitting back on my forearm, and tried it the first time from standing. You can see my first attempts in my videos. Now that I can do it from pole sit I just think about it like going back into plank, then at first I’d tuck the legs, then I’d slowly splay them!
I’m sure you will get it! Good luck!

Ohhh i seee!! That seems easier from standing thank you!

All great advice! I have super short arms so I have difficulty with some moves. For a wrist sit, I reaalllllly have to lean far back. My dominant arm is usually at chest height. I lean back and position my non dominant arm under my butt. I have to redistribute my weight when I lean back, and that helps keep me from sliding down. I tuck my legs in first, and then splay out. When I tuck in, it pushes me against the pole more.
