well ive been learning on youtube, its not the same as taking actual classes. i guess that explains why the inverted v seems impossibly and why i cant seem to get it down. ive been searching beginner moves and usually ill come across ones that i have already learned, so i assumed that it was time to move to intermediate….and thats when i came across the inverted v. silly me, you cant quite always be so sure what steps come next, since theres no order on youtube. unfortunatly theres no classes in my county the closes is about 2 hours away, but i plan on taking up a class anyway. i appreciate everyone voicing their concern, i would really hate to get hurt and feel discouraged

kaygee, it sounds the the first invert you are trying is the V? I'm no expert, but there are other inverts you should learn first. The V is very difficult, IMO.

I agree with HollySatine, Chumpchkin etc. For very sweaty hands some grip aids are essential for securing new moves. It's so easy for people to say they don't believe in grip aids when they don't know how it really feels to have literally no grip at all. I understand why a person would fear grip aids becoming addictive and being unnescessary when their hands sweat minimally but you gotta understand, for some people it's a big, big problem. As a sweaty handed person I must say I find it VERY disheartening to hear people say such things, for me, I literally slip right off and leave beads of sweat running down the pole. I doubt many of you could grip too much if you were you experiencing the same level of slippiness. So while I TOTALLY agree, if you can manage without it that you should try, not all of us have that option. I'd rather use a grip aid and feel safe than lose my grip and injure myself or go back to feeling that poling is something I simply cannot do. Grip issues due to excessive sweating is very, very disheartening.
Anyway, back to the issue at hand, I could barely climb on day 7 so I am in no position to help you. But I wish you luck! Stay safe 🙂

@ Kaygee10….if your looking for guidance the lessons here are set up in the order in which you should do them. the V Invert is not beginner in anyway so please be careful. The lessons even include strength and stretching for pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I only use them for Competitions and performances because in a big crowd, my adrenaline rushes and I feel more secure in my mind.Your body will adapt to everything, in time. You have to allow yourself to build everything. I have seen some girls progress in months, while others takes a year to invert, and some another year to shoulder mount. You have to listen to your body. I would say use them if it makes you feel better about your confidence on the pole, but not always. Maybe warm up, and practice a routine, and then during your routine just use it. Practice most moves without it. Once you learned a new trick with the grip, try doing it for a week without. Alternate and one day you will toss it because you will know that your grip will surpass the bottle! Good luck.

@kaygee10 I highly reccomend Veena's lessons! They will help you build strength and progress safely through beginner, intermediate, and advanced moves.
As to the original grip aid question, if you don't need any help yet don't worry about it. Many people, as you have seen throughout this topic, don't ever use grip aids so no, it is not a necessity.

I have found the tack mighty grip gloves helpful for when I need to hold myself up when my hands are dripping.

I think the speed of your progress depends a lot on the natural skill and the strength of the student. Also, I believe that if you take classes with a teacher, it makes it easier and safer to advance faster.
I have the problem of sweaty hands as well. When I learned the spins I had to wipe the pole constantly and then when I started inverting and needing grip in my hands it was almost impossible for me to do moves because my hands were so sweaty I left drops on the pole. I get sweaty hands when watching the teacher show me the move I'm about to learn… or even watching pole dance videos on youtube! It's also a matter of nervousness so I bought myself some tite grip and itac2 and I use it. It's wonderful for everything but spins for me. I use it until I gain confidence in the new moves I'm learning. It has helped me a lot and now some moves that I used to need the grip aid to do because my hands were so sweaty I couldn't grip the pole, I can do them without it! I hope that will happen wih all of the tricks I learn, that with time I will be able to do them without getting nervous and sweating.
If you need grip, use it. Pole dancing for fitness in your own home or for your own is not a competition, so nothing can really be considered cheating. If you're being SAFE and having fun, it's all good.

I don't see what the big deal is about grip aids! It's just another tool, like latex shorts, or grippy boots, or gloves. I personally love grip aids, I think I would just about die if I ran out of platinum grip. And rock climbing chaulk aalways helps my hands dry out. I don't "depend" on grip to be able to do tricks, but it enables me to be hands on pole for upwards of 20-30 min without having to wipe the pole down at all! If I can improve my grip, while having more time on the pole then I'm all for it!
Now I will say that I agree with some of the other girls when I say you do need a certain amount of strength in order to be able to do certain tricks. Lots of practice will make perfect!

Amen to the rock climbing chalk…dries out your hands, but isn't sticky. Not like gymnastics chalk which is designed to help your hands stay dry but also rotate on the bars. Some people like that, but I'll stick to the rock climbing chalk.

yep all the strength in the world will not help you if you don't have a grip. I struggled for years with my stainless steel pole even last night I couldn't get a grip on it, so went over to my chrome and volia all of a sudden I could pole without a ton of grip aids that I have to use on my stainless steel.
However I will also say it took me years to do a inverted V!!!!
