akkis2 – I am trying to figure it out in my head but its impossible so I will also try it when I get home from work. I’m hoping it works out since i dont like my side climb yet.

Karol goes into hood ornament a lot in her videos. Also, if you look for videos of the death lay typically the poler will climb, figurhead, then shouldermount.
-
so…..I tried and totally failed : \ let me know how it goes for you.

I didn't realize in class we were doing the figure head but seemed like your throw your body to the front after a simple climb and then I though I gotta do a clenched fisted hold with this and (boom) guess it became the hood ornament. I knew the figurehead with arms above were more like for arial shoulder mounting but am going no where close fast. Gonna check out the advise- thx guys!

You can get into the figure head from a regular climb…. I'm not advanced enough for superman etc, but can do this one!
Climb up and hold regularly, grip with hands and swing body around to the front of the pole, grip with legs, the feed your inside hand under the outside arm (still gripping the pole) and grasp behind head, then you can arch and flick up back leg…
Might not be the best explanation but can be done!

CaseyT's explanation works for me. It also works if you regular climb, twist the upper body around, reposition the top hand, and let the legs twist around to the correct position. Such a pretty looking hold!

@ akkis2 and MichelleH, based off your description I'm pretty sure you're describing the body spiral.
-
@ FreeTheSun–I may be, but whatever it is, you can end it in the Figurehead!
I wonder if the Candycane spin I talked about earlier in this thread would also be called the Body Spiral?
-
Aha! I think the Candycane is commonly called the Corkscrew spin! Although I tend to keep my body more vertical for what I consider the Candycane, and with more of a horizontal tilt for the Corkscrew.

@vamp79 – I just posted a video in which I do the figurehead twice (I'm in an advanced beginner/intermediate level) – first at 1:58 where I get into it from a back knee hook (with elbow hold) on spinny pole (which is really fun because it makes you spin faster) and at 2:47 where I get into it from a side climb on static (which I still have to work on smoothing out but you can get a sense of what it should look like). Hope this helps!
