Tonight at the pole studio, i told my fitness instructor that the last few times I was in the studio I wound up getting blisters and pole burn on my fingers. She asked me where and took a look as I showed her my fingertips. She told me I must be death gripping that sucker. But I told her I was consciously aware and trying not to. She then told me just a little bit of BABY POWDER will help a person NOT to stick so much to the pole. This was great. It worked so well. Especially since my hands sweat when I work out on the brass and brass gets really hot really quick.

After she showed me how to help my grip with the baby powder, I could feel WHY I was getting burn marks and blisters on my fingers and fingertips. When grabbing the pole I would grip and apply pressure with my finger tips instead of my palms. Thank god I had gained an awareness of this. I was able to correct myself tonight each time I grabbed/gripped my pole with my fingertips instead of my palms. I also became aware that sometimes, when I gripped at the palm, I was REGRIPPING, and this caused me to put the points of contact back on my fingertips rather than my palms. I also noticed a few times that I would grab the pole at my palms but during the spins my grip would roll out to the fingertips.

Awesome. I now know what I need to do to correct my grip and stop from burning my fingers. I wasn’t even aware i was doing these things. And after I had become aware of the fact I was doing them…it made sense as to why I sometimes have this crazy fingertip/joint pain in my fingers the night of , or morning after, poling…I was gripping with my fingers instead of my palms. Smh.

No more burnt fingers and finger pain for me. yay!

I had seen a few threads in the discussion section in which others were also having these problems but didn’t know why and weren’t receiving answers. Hopefully this experience from tonight can help some others.

It was really bothering me waking up in the middle of the night or morning and having the finger pain. Sometimes I would take some ibuprofen in the morning or afternoon if it lingered. And when my hands started sticking to the brass and blistering and burning I just knew that wasn’t right.

I had to literally make sure I was grabbing the pole right EVERY single time I grabbed it last night. And some times I hand to reposition when I realized I repositioned. Sometimes I stopped mid spin when I felt my fingers rolling out. But it helpped tremendously. It might take me a while but I will condition myself.

One thought I had was that I had done administrative work for so many years that I’m used to putting pressure on my fingertips. That could have played a part subconsciously. And I also have small hands. The studio poles are 50mm and I can’t close my hands completely around them. So the larger pole diameter might also play into it a little bit when I’m seeing my grip roll from palms to fingertips. But awareness is the first step to correction. And à lot of awareness and correction was happening last night.

Same here. I’m early in my practice so it may be a strength issue for me as well. Thankfully, this tip will have me watching for it!
