    Hey ladies,

Does anyone know any tips for toughening up the skin on the hands?

I blistered and tore the skin on the palm of my riht hand about a week and a half ago after a poleing session. Not a particulary long session or hard but for no reason after a spin the palm blistered and tore straight away which has meant no pole for a week.
I thought I had given it enough time to heal so I tried again yesterday and again same thing has happened, although thankfully nowhere near as bad as the first time.
This is really slowing my learning process up as its forcing me off the pole for a week at a time while i wait for the skin to heal.
Im not over gripping as i spin fairly smoothly (when i actually get them right XD) and there is no pain or rubbing prior to it happening.
Thanks for any replys, a very frustrated me x

What kind of finish is on your pole?
do you have dry, or sweaty hands?
is the climate hot or cool in your pole room?
How long have you been dancing?
and last do you use any grip aids? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

    Hiya,

Its a chrome finish, nope dont really get sweaty hands although my pole feels slippy a lot of the time so i use water and wipe it off (am getting rubbing alchol delivered int he next couple of days) temp yesterday was warm although the first time it happened it was fairly cool, and only use grip aids (mighty grip) at the very start when the pole is still slippy and when trying inverts https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Once the pole has warmed up I dont need to use the mighty grip.

I would stop using the grip aid. They tend to leave a nasty residue behind and if your only cleaning the pole with water….you’ll never get it all off. So if you don’t have alcohol yet, then clean your pole really well, with soap and water, rinse well. Then no more grip aid. Poles always start off slippery, you just have to give them a chance to warm up. If you feel the need to use grip aids, do it at the end of a work out and only for working on inverts and holds, NEVER before working on spins. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
