Posted by vamp79 on July 1, 2011 at 6:08 amHello ladies. I just received my lil mynx and would live to put it up asap. However I have to wait for the floor pad since i need it for concrete floor (the pole is going up in my garage). Do u guys have any tips for installation?

Does yours not have the little rubber feet on the bottom? I had mine up in my garage with just those feet and had no problem (although mine was not a rotator)
The screw I have for mine was a good 2"

Mine has the rubber feet but I thought that was only good for carpet.. The screw is about two inches on mine as well. Has yours given you any trouble at all? I don’t have instructions since I got it used.

First thing: attach the little feet and install the mount. Next measure the height to the ceiling and subtract 1/2" to ompensate for the skid-pad. Now, take that measurement and extend the pole up to that height. When extending the pole, push down on the adjustor tube slightly; DO NOT PULL UP! It takes a while to get extended, so be patient. When it is the correct length, stand it up at an angle, with the pole opening right at the ceiling mount, place the rubber skid-pad right by the bottom of the pole. Now, LIFT the bottom of the pole (pushing the upper tube into the ceiling and kicking the skid pad under the bottom of the pole. Move the pole into vertical. Take a level and adjust the pole to be vertical. You know what…I'll make you a video. BRB…

Note: At the end she tightens the pole while it's up. DON'T DO THAT! It'll mess up your ceiling. Lil Mynx specifically says not to do that. Just make sure it is tight, if it isn't take the pole down, extend the adjuster pole a little more, an try again.

Lil Mynx also has downloadable directions on how to do this on their website.

I had mine up for about 2 years in my garage and a year in the house. In the original directions that I have for my pole it states to finish tightening the pole while it is up until it does not spin any longer. This makes it REALLY difficult to get the pole down because as you are trying to unscrew it the mount also wants to unscrew and it creates a big mess and also damages your ceilingl.

thanks for the video and the link! I probably will wait for hubby to help me tomorrow so that I don’t end up setting up the mount in the wrong area. I’m very excited and eager to have it up already.

@chemgoddess – i just read your post. i installed my rotator today, with the vaulted ceiling mount. actually, my neighbor (who is a builder) did it for me, and i helped. i read the instruction manual very carefully, and the part about never trying to extend the pole while it is on the mount. but he said that it would be okay to go up there and gently give it a few twists (emphasis on gently) until i felt a little resistance, if the pole needed tightening. rather than take it down. it did need tightening, which i realized after testing it out (because the base moved from it's spot on the floor). so i went up there and gave it a couple of turns. however, this makes me really nervous!! the manual says not to do that. does this apply to the vaulted ceiling mount as well? thanks!!
ps. i don't have any plans to take this pole down – ever! unless something really crazy happens and we have to move.

tarah, any pressure mounted pole should be taken down monthly to give your ceiling a floor a chance to resettle.

Tarah, i know u cant tighten it at all on reg mount when it is up, would think the vault mount would be the same. Mine came loose from trying to tightn it while up. We then made it one inch longer than the floor to ceiling then pushed/ lifted it in place. Secure as can be. I dont take down check that, but it would be easy to do and u should since u will b having students. Good luck

The original instructions had you tightening it in place but I beleive this is what caused the problems that people had with eating their ceiling. I believe that the new instructions say to make sure that the pole is exactly at the height it needs to be before pushing it into place. This will cause the least amount of damage to your ceiling.
The part of the pole that sits on the regular mount is actually a little wider than the mount intself, so when you spun it into place you could physically be spinning your pole into the drywall. I am not sure how the pole sits on the vaulted ceiling mount. It looks like the top of the pole is only going to hit metal. If you do tighten it in place I would make sure that you are indeed turning just the pole and not the mount itself.
