help with lil’ mynx pole question
Posted by peacelovepole on February 7, 2011 at 2:02 pmHello. I am looking to buy a pole and the only removable custom option I could find to fit my short ceiling is lil' mynx. Does anyone have any feedback on the powder-coated color finishes? They say they are good for gripping and posing, but I'm not sure how they would do with spinning. Or would you suggest going with the stainless steel? Any feedback is helpful. Thank you!

I have a stainless lil'minx and find it to be very slippery to the point that I think my nieces boyfriend it going to take it and have a friend that does cars powder coat it for me.

I have a powder-coated Lil' Mynx, and while I like it a lot, it is extremely, extremely grippy. This can be great when you're trying new moves, but it can hold you back when you're trying moves like Superman/woman. My pole also spins, and I haven't had any trouble with it in spinning mode, other than it squeaking at times. A little WD40 down the shaft takes care of that problem, though.

hey there– you can have an xpole/platinum stages pole work for a shorter ceiling than they advertise– you just use shorter extensions. give them a ring. you can also have platinum stages make a custom length one-piece pole in stainless or brass. i wouldn't recommend lil mynx only bc their stinaless takes FOREVER to break in (i sanded mine) and their powder coat is really too sticky for spins.

I have a lil mynx powder coated and cannot tell you how many times I have ripped skin on it during the summer months.

lol and summer is the only time my stainless is useable or at least without a ton of grip aids.

Hey there,
I've got the Lil' Mynx stainless steel version, and I…honestly haven't had any problems with it. I've got short ceilings, too, and it fits perfectly well. I've never had it fall I've never had any assembly problems.
I've touched and slightly played with a powder coated one, and I would say it might be somewhat grippier than mine.
Really, I find that it's fine, if you keep it clean and DON'T ever wear any metal on the pole. I'm serious. Any chrome, stainless, powdered…any pole, don't wear rings or whatever. It'll make things…worse. Anyways, um, clean it regularly, work on your grip, and I think you'll be fine, whatever you get. I like mine, and I can do whatever I want on it 🙂

mine gets cleaned all the time and I still can't do anything on it unless it is either humid out or I use a ton of grip aids. And its not because I'm a beginner its been in the house for 4 years. I can do much more on chrome, or TG or brass. I bought a second pole this summer (an x pole) just because of the lil minx keeping me from progressing. But that is how my body chemistry works with those poles. Different people like different finishes.

I switched from a SS Lil Mynx (hated it – had it for years and was always too slippy) to a powder coated Lil Mynx and I LOVE IT! I don't actually find it too grippy. I also have a PS multi piece pole which I love as well but I tend to use the Lil Mynx more as it's so easy to just throw up fast 🙂

I agree with Nymph…some people like different poles for different reasons. It's ALWAYS humid here, as I live on an island in the ocean, so I have no issues. Someone in a hotter or dryer climate might find a different finish works well for them.

I had a powder coated lil mynx. I didn't find it too sticky for spins on static and it switched to rotator mode pretty easy. If I hadn't moved to a place with way ceilings 2 inches shorter than what I could make my pole do then I prob would still have it (I replaced it with an xpole with is good too. Sometimes slippery but norm due to weather).

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the feedback. I did call xpole and they were able to explain that by not using the longest piece, the xpole can be used in my house. I've used xpoles before so I was hoping to get one, and am pleasantly surprised to find I can and ordered it today. Thanks again!

I don't recommend LM poles unless you just don't have the budget for an X-pole. The MAJOR issue with these poles is that thay are pressure mounted into a flange that is held up by 1 screw. Over time that screw will become loose and "eat" through the stud because you're swinging on it.
My first pole was a black LM and the finish and grippiness was great – it got too grippy at times and their stainless steel isn't very grippy at all – kinda the opposite of the powder coating.
If an LM is what you have your heart set on or all you have to budget – I guess they are okay…but mind you that screw will wear out, mine did in like a year and I couldn't replace the pole where it was.
Check out the X-pole sport maybe? You can get smaller extensions as Amy mentioned.

I had that happen too with my lil mynx charley but after it came down the first time we put it up with an extra piece of wood between it and the ceiling. Works like a charm. However now I can't get the pole down lol

I have never used a powder coated pole, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Lil Mynx stainless steel pole. Personal preference I guess 🙂

My first pole was a black Lil' Mynx rotator pole and I still have it up in my house and use it from time to time. I really like it a lot because it's grippier and great for a beginner learning new tricks that require sticking to the pole. At the studio I work at we have stainless steel Lil' Mynx 20 foot static poles. I have found that of all the poles I have a couple favorites that I can work on better than others. One of the poles in particular is much more slick than the others. Once the stainless steel poles are warmed up properly, I generally don't have any issues with them at all. I also have a chrome 50 mm Xpole which I use primarily for at home workouts because I am able to relocate it to other areas in my house depending on what I'm working on. Some moves require more room. I would say overall Lil' Mynx is a great pole to start on. As you progress you may want to move on to other poles or add more in to your collection. Like what a lot of other people said, it's really personal preference.
