I consider it a trick but more specifically you may consider it a transitional move

Empy, thanks. i first thought trick, but then the more i mused, the less that seemed correct. transitional move is a good way to think of it too ! jeez i wish there was standardization !!!!!!!!!

I think of it as transitional but more specifically floorwork… but that’s just me *shrug*

I’m tempted just to launch into a glossary of pole terms, but I shall resist. Does such a thing exist already? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Yeah but I was thinking beyond what the names are, like if it’s transitional, floorwork, spins, holds, a trick, etc. other than spins vs. moves vs. dance steps like what WikiPole has. I use Wikipole all the time… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif But that might be getting too nit-picky, I dunno…

no foxy — personally i LIKE stuff being further categorized… to me it seems more logical than just spins or tricks…

The elbowstand would be floor work https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

True…but what if you’re using it to go from floor work to the pole or the other way around? Then it’s a transition?

I think classifying moves this way may be just as debatable as trying to determine which moves are basic, intermediate and advanced.

I don’t find any of this as confusing or frustrating as the whole problem with the names themselves – but it is interesting.

The same could be said about the flat line scorpio, inverted thigh hold, superman…the list could go on, lots of move can be used to transition into another. A transition to me so something more simple in nature ( kicks, pole turns, slink ups) than a classified pole move.

I think its best to keep things simple, just because something is labeled as floorwork doesn’t mean it can’t be used as a transition. Floorwork is just the most explanatory category it fits into. Keep it simple. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
