  • how to stretch arches?

Posted by smokinangel on February 10, 2011 at 3:19 am

I'm at a loss. I have high arches and being on my toes/in heels gets them pretty tight.  I'm good about stretching the achilles and top of the foot, but haven't found a good one for the arch yet.  I've rolled my right ankle/sprained my big toe so many times it's not funny.  This means the stretch where you sit on your heels with your toes tucked hurts the toe.  The one where you prop the foot against the wall and push I don't feel.  Any other ideas?  Can you use a foam roller on your arch, or maybe a tennis ball?

sit with your feet in front of you flexed and press through the balls of your feer until your feet are pointed but toes are flexed thrn completly point your toes and reverse. Thats an exercise ive been doing for ballet for years! Working with therabands is great too, or try looking at the book dance anatomy it should be at any bookstore! Hope that helps!

Ever try a Theraband? I use one to rebalance the pressure receptors in my sprained deltold ligament to great success. The simple elastic band works great for pointing and flexing exercises plus promotes strong arches and proper articulation.

I used to do pointe ballet and I’d always go to discount dance supply. They had some cheap things to help. I used to do the stretchy band stretches, a little each day and it did help a lot.

I stretch mine by standing with legs together and straight, with the feet turned out (like first position in balet) and stretch downward keeping the legs straight.
