hurt tailbone doing CKR
Posted by tarah on December 11, 2010 at 1:04 amHey everyone https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif just wondering if anyone has ever had this happen – I bruised or did something to my tailbone doing a CKR, before that I did lots of them with no problems at all. Now I can’t do this move without alot of pain to my tailbone (and it’s been like 2 months!) I’ve tried using gel pads in my shorts but nothing helps. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif has anyone experienced anything like this?

Ok, I had this problem a lot when I was first learning ckr…I eventually found out that it was from the way I was practicing lowering myself into the move. When you actually do the full move, like let go of the pole and lean back all the way…The way your knee is across the pole, and from the way your leaning, there will be a lot of space between your tailbone and the pole. You won’t be resting on it anymore when you finally fully enter the move and lean back correctly. Maybe try it with a spotter around, and make sure you feel comfortable doing it. Now that I’ve perfected it when I do it, I just fall back into the move, and it never touches my tailbone anymore https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I hope this helped!!

Thanks, Tabbycat https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif that gives me alot of hope. however, I’m confused about what IS touching the pole when you go back – do you shift a little to one side (before going back) so the pole is off to the side of the sacrum, or lean off to one side as you are letting go and going back? hey tarah i might have some insight but i hope this isn’t what you’re dealing with…. have you actually looked or felt around back there? you can get a cyst back there easily if you are prone to skin issues, i was just dealing with this recently. i had a cyst before, and hitting it or even stressing the area can cause flare ups…and at first the flare ups feel like you bruised or hurt your tailbone. i’d take a good look or feel and make sure your skin is all okay, no lumps or red spots, because that could be the issue. i only speak from experience and like i said i really hope this isnt what you have bc you would probably have to go to the doc or er to get the cyst lanced. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_albino.gif

I’m glad this post came up as I’ll be utilizing the advice given for myself. I’ve broken my tailbone 4 times and it’s a pretty sensitive area for me now – easily injured. Tarah, does it still pain you when you sit and go about your normal day (walking, lifting especially)?

Hi Eaglespirit https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif no, my tailbone doesn’t bother me (it did for a couple of months), it’s only when the pole gets pressed against it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif I haven’t experimented with the CKR yet, but if I figure it out, I’ll let you know how to do it. I was hoping for more explanation but maybe I just have to experiment. How did you break your tailbone? I’m glad your tailbone doesn’t pain you in everyday life anymore! Hopefully you can find a way to do your moves without putting pressure on the area.
The first time I broke my tailbone I was riding my horse and she bucked me off. Somehow I landed on my butt, and on a rock to boot. I had to sit on a bag of frozen peas for a couple of weeks because the swelling was so bad! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
The second time, I stood up from my chair in computer class and leaned slightly away to help my friend log onto a program. Another classmate didn’t realize that the chair directly behind me was mine and he took it. I thought it was still there and I sat down…it looked pretty funny but I broke my tailbone again.
The third time was a nasty: that’s when I was sitting on the edge of my school desk while wearing rollerskates. The desk tipped, I gripped the edge with my fingers and tried to stop myself with my legs, but the skates just accelerated my fall. I landed on my tailbone, breaking it again, but the nasty was that the edge of the desk severed the tips of two of my fingers. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif
The fourth time I simply slipped and fell on my butt. My poor tailbone is now crooked and curved off the left and gives me grief sometimes. I can’t sit normally on most flat, hard chairs. I sit cross-legged at the dinner table to relieve the pressure.

It sounds like you had some really bad luck with your tailbone https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif I guess once you break it one time, it doesn’t take alot to break it again. I think mine is just bruised (I bruised it once before slipping on some icy steps). I admire you for having the courage to try pole dancing. I think you will be fine as long as you avoid falling, and I probably wouldn’t do CKR or CAR without bracing yourself with your bottom hand while you are lowering down, at least until you are SURE you can do it without pain.
