So i am no where near as advanced as most of you lovely ladies posting videos and pictures. But your all so amazing and i cant wait to get to that point!! How long have you guys been poling? I just finished day five of veenas lessons. And she is the only lessons i am doing. I know poling takes lots of practice and lots of time and i always feel great after one of her workouts but i feel like im not gonna where you all are at. ( i guess i just need to learn how to be a little more patient ) what are your suggestions on things for beginners to practice? As of right now im working on pole strenghth.

I have been trying to learn for months but due to work schedule I can’t ever get to classes unless it’s a Saturday but then I only get to one class. So now that I discovered Veena in the last 3 months on FB or so I think, I decided to come to this site. I personally say to always work on strength but also go ahead and do the level 1 basic spins while building strength. That’s my personal opinion. I started opposite. I started with workout and pole conditioning and basic spins before trying to build strength. Now I do both thanks to Veena strength exercises. I’m sure she will tell you the best way tho. I jus started to record myself by Gliding my boo lol but I see that it keeps tremendously to see what I did good and poor on. Lol I look forward to everyone comments because I can gauge where I’m at also.

Hi! Day 5 isn’t very far into Poling at all 🙂 Rushing into moves that you are not ready for often result in injury because either the body isn’t physically ready, or you lack the technique and control needed to safely perform the move. Stay with the program, and once you have the basic’s down and you are looking for ways to connect moves check out the Routines section. You’ll find 30 mini routines that do not require any inverts! You can see what level these routines are in the description. Try working on any of the stretches, or floorwork and transitions listed in the beginner section. Keep in mind you should only be working on the splins listed in the Beginner section, not other spins yet!! Inter. spins should be done after strength and conditioning has been consistently done for a while.

I have been at it for 8 years! I remember thinking what you are thinking….there is NO WAY I will ever be able to do that. Time and patience!

I’ve been poling for 6 years, nearly 7 now I think… and barely been able to do a basic invert in all that time!
My biggest thing was training off the pole (with weights and such) so that I didn’t push myself too hard with moves I couldn’t do yet… and also actually pushing myself enough that I end up sore the next day, or the day after that, so that I knew I worked hard, and that my muscles were getting stronger!
These days, the most gains I’ve made have been these techniques. I’ve made a list of “easier” moves to work on, like climbs (which I’ve been doing a long time), spins, and such… and just made a commitment to perfect them, add some finesse, and truly learn all I can from these moves! Even if I can already do them, I knew there was much more to learn.
So, take it from me: Patience! You don’t want to hurt yourself (which I have done!) because that sucks. But, you don’t want to be too gentle, either. Gotta learn your own body, and find out what’s best for you!

Definitely practice climbs! Not only are they a really great workout, but they’re easy to measure progress with, and there’s basically an infinite amount of finessing you can do with them. Sure, they’re exhausting, but worth it. Basic spins are good for beginners as long as you are maintaining proper form. There are also plenty of things you can do around the pole, like pirouettes. Also, I would say pole sits are good to practice in the beginning. To eventually get upside down, you’re gonna wanna do some pole tucks. I’m sure Veena has a video for those. These are all things I started with.

I’ve been poling for about seven months. At this point I’m reaching a more intermediate point where the progress naturally slows down a little. In the beginning it seems like you conquer more things faster. When the moves get harder, progress is not as fast so conditioning is important.

Another thing I would add is listen to your own body! If you’re doing something that’s causing you sudden pain (not discomfort like in pole sits, actual pain) ease off! Do not ignore it or you will hurt yourself. I made this mistake with pain in my back, and it’s taken a couple weeks for it to feel mostly normal since I put so much strain on the muscle. It’s slowing down my progress on inverted moves. So yeah, listen to your body!
