insanity fitness program
Posted by vamp79 on January 19, 2012 at 6:11 amHello ladies. Has anyone done insanity? I started with hubby three days ago and it truly is kicking our butts. I don’t have energy to work on pole moved or anything else because I’m so tired and sore! Does it get better? I’m scared that I may improve my stamina but end up losing upper body strength….

I know there are a couple of people on here that have done it hopefully they will chime in for you. Anything gets a bit easier when you do it. I thought about it but time is a factor for us so we went with Jillian's shred and ripped dvd's nice 20-25 minute workouts that don't leave me too tired to do stretching and dancing as well.

I’ve done the jillian dvds but hubby doesn’t like them and part of doing them with him is to keep him motivated so we picked insanity since p90x is even more time consuming. This program is so intense though, nothing like p90x…I’m having trouble keeping up. Maybe I need to eat more proteins or buy a supplement drink. Thanks for chiming in! I hope tohear from others here.

I'm lucky hubby likes doing the Jillian workouts 🙂 getting ready to do it right now with him.

I did Insanity over the summer with my dad. Honestly, I did kind of end up losing upper body strength, but that had a lot to do with the fact that it was so humid that I didn't feel safe doing inverts all summer. It was pretty good for my stamina, but the results really didn't stick around at all once I went back to school and couldn't work out all the time. (I found that P90X stuck around for MUCH longer–but then again, it takes an enormous amount of time to do all those workouts.)
But it does get better. It definitely won't leave you this tired and sore after a while.

I am worried about losing upper body strength so I guess I will have to force myself to train for inverts. I looked up the nutrition guide online and it seems like I need to eat more. Maybe getting more calories in my diet will help with energy. Thanks for sharing ur experience with the program : )

Try bodyrocktv workout on YouTube.
and their website is BodyRock.tv – yes, there is no .com 🙂Their workouts are short, intense, and full body. My arms, legs, and abs were so sore! The best part is these workout are free

I did insanity- You do adjust to the intensity- You probably should have a small snack before you do it if your tiring out too quickly- something small high carb, low fat like a banana.. then after your workout fuel back w a protein when your'e done. Good luck w it! I remember doing lots of varied push ups in the program so you should be ok w upper body. I dont think anything will work the same muscles like actual pole though so Id jump on when you can to maintain those specific areas! Good for you guys to be doing iot together!

Took me about a week and a half before I had pole energy again, but it does get better! In general, more food, more protein. I kept up regular poling and did insanity to tone/strengthen lower body. Good luck and have fun!

Azblanco – thanks for the info. I will check those out. I will shorter intense workouts after were done with insanity.

Paulettepoles – I actually feel better tonight since I had a snack before the workout.
Smokinangel- so happy to hear that the energy came back! I got on the pole for a bit after today’s workout but didn’t get to do much. My legs are so sore!

I wanted to update this thread in case anyone is considering doing insanity. I feel a lot more energized this second week. I also feel stronger than ever. Even my upper body strength has improved, I can feel it when I invert. So excited about doing the whole program now! I have increased my caloric intake and me and hubby are waiting for protein powder and a post workout drink to arrive. I think the extra calories are necessary for me since I don’t want to lose weight, just fat.

Vamp79, can you give me some info on what the insanity program is. What is the workout schedule and for how long? What is their theory? I heard of p90x but not if insanity.

Hi joni. Sorry I took so long to reply I’ve been going crazy lately trying to juggle work, kids, hubby, poling, and insanity lol. I did p90x about a year ago and loved it but insanity is completely different. U don’t use weights at all, just ur own body weight. The workouts are about 40 mins long for the first month and I hear that they are an hour long the second month. I’m only at the end of week two so can only give my two cents about the first half of the program. There’s a warm up that is very intense, then stretching, and then the real craziness starts. I think its called interval training where u push yourself really hard for about three minutes bringing ur heart rate up and the resting for thirty seconds. After

After the 30 seconds rest u go back at it for 3 more mins and then 30 seconds rest. You do this for the next 18 to 20 mins and then stretch again. I find that most moves are plyometric. Lots of jumping… I’m loving it so far and seeing faster results than with p90x. Plus I finally nailed my inverted v after one week if doing these workouts yay.
