i am currently unemployed & have been for a few months. i need a job like yesterday! i have applied for hundreds of jobs but in this economy it is super hard to find work! i did not go to college, seemed like a good idea at the time but now its biting me in the ass https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif. when i graduated high school i started working at a drug store & for my parents company on the side, after that i got a great job in an office that sold Helium & they even promoted me to a national account manager https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif! i did a great job at that! i managed 3500 stores & i loved it!!!! but i ended up quitting that job because my parents company was doing wonderful & they had a job opening that was perfect for me! but now in this shit hole economy their business isn't doing so wonderful https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif so, that means i had to look for a job! & guess what?!?! there are no jobs for an "uneducated" 27 year old female unless i want to work at McDonalds or something similar https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif i don't know what to do! every job that i "could do" required a 4 year degree (these places don't even care what kind of degree! they are just being assholes because they know everyone is looking for a job & they can be super picky!) i do not qualify for government assistance or for unemployment since my parents would be paying that since they are my last employer… i know they are hard up too so i would NEVER do that to them!!! either way, i really need money! my home is about to go into foreclosure & i don't want to loose my house! so… i am thinking i need to try my hand at "exotic dancing" or something like that where i could make some decent money. i would say i am a kind of a prude & i really don't want to take my clothes off for strangers so i am wondering if there are any other kinds of jobs similar to that that you only strip down to like a bikini? a little bikini top & thongs would be OK with me too! especially if the money was right https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif.  my "boyfriend" has already told me that he WILL leave me if i do any kind of dancing (nude or not) for a job so i guess i can kiss my relationship good bye https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif but i don't know what else to do! do any of you know of any jobs along those lines that i could look for? i don't even know what that would be called. i never even thought i would be in a place like this, jobless & nearly homeless too! i saw a site called adultjobscentral.com & sexyjobs.com & those have some work from home "get naked & dance around" on your webcam. but like i said i really don't want to take ALL of my clothes off for money.

i live in the Atlanta, GA area if that matters….any suggestions are very much appreciated!!! Thanks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Hi Scandalicious – I am sorry to hear you are going through a rough spot! Being out of work is so scary. Reach out to everyone you know in your area and let them know that you are looking for work and ready to go – almost every job I have had came from someone I knew, who had a friend who knew someone….you know how it goes. The more eyes on the street for you the better. As far as unemployment goes – the unemployment payments themselves would not come directly from your parents' company. Companies are required in their taxes to pay unemployment insurance – which covers unemployment payments when their ex-employees file a claim. Claims can make your rate go up, but the change for one employee is very small. It's definitely worth checking out – I appreciate that you are looking out for your family's business, but look out for yourself, too. Companies pay that money to help out people just like you!

Good luck to you – keep your chin up!

Scandalicious – College is a requirement to enter many positions for which you don't have demonstrable experience.  College is simply a credential that lowers risk when hiring.  If there is a particular industry you want to work in try and find a support job in a company serving that industry, as a secretary, personal assistant, gopher or other support position you learn valuable skills and gain company knowledge that can allow you to work your way into more advanced positions as they become available.  I have seen this happen many times and even used this strategy myself.  Once you have a significant amount of experience no one cares about a college education because all they have to do is call your previous employer and ask how you did.

Other things to consider are positions where the employer takes on very little risk, many sales positions are almost entirely commission based and so they are much easier to acquire because if you don't make sales you don't get paid.  Another good option is serving at a restaraunt.  I did this for a couple years and it was good money, if you work hard, and take good care of your tables you can go home with $200 or more every night.

Bartending and cocktail waitressing are great quick cash options to hold you over.

    Good luck!

Just so you know, your parents have to pay into unemployment whether anyone files or not.  And why do you not qualify for government assistance?

Webmaster is right.  I know of very little positions that don't want you to have at least some college education, especially professional positions.  It does not matter what the degree is in, it just shows that you can set a goal and work several years toward it.

I would also look into free services that help with resumes and cover letters in your area.  If you are sending out hundreds of resumes and not getting even a nibble there may be something blaringly obvious in your resume that you are not seeing but employers are.  Also talk to recruiters.  Many times they have "ins" with companies and many times those "ins" can get you in the door even without a college education.

Also….for the rest of you who may be reading this…I cannot stress enough how important a college education is in this economy and in the near future.  Even if it is only a 2 year degree in pottery making it still says a lot to potential employers.  There are so many online and evening classes available that there really is no excuse.

@Chem – My point about college was that it is more an option that lets you jump ahead in the job pool, but to be fair it requires a four year minimum investment which is time you can be gaining experience and clout in an industry.  There are plenty of opportunities to work your way up the ladder you just have to be willing to cinch up that belt and work your butt off in a position that will start off less than glorious, much like college.  College is a risk based investment that should be evaluated carefully for your chosen industry, it doesn't guarantee you a job, that is why we have 15,000 Masters working as full-time parking lot attendants in this country.

@All – Whatever you choose to do, work hard, speak up, give praise, accept blame, contribute, follow graciously and you will be rewarded.  I didn't even complete one semester of college yet I worked my way into a corporate directorship.  College is only one path but courage and dedication are required for any path you choose.  The minute you start blaming the situation, the economy or other factors you have lost, these are simply constraints that should help guide your decision.

Scandalicious, sorry to hear about your troubles.  Everyone has given you good advice on job hunting, but I wanted to talk to you about your home.  There's a program from a company called American Homeowner Preservation in Cincinnati OH.  They help people like you keep their homes.  In a nutshell, they negotiate a short sale with your bank and then they find an investor to pay the bank off.  You then make lease payments to the investor and you can buy your home back from the investor in 1-5 years for a predetermined amount.    The lease payments are less than you'd pay if you were to rent an apartment and you get to stay in your home.  Check out their website at ahphelp.com.   Good luck to you.

A college degree may give you a slight edge sometimes, but honestly, from everything I am hearing from people, right now it really doesn't matter whether you have a degree or not–the job market is pretty tough right now for everyone. There are plenty of people with even college degrees taking crappy little gas station jobs because they're having trouble finding people that want to hire them. A lot of employers want experience, which people fresh out of college generally don't have. That doesn't mean you should give up hope, just that it will take you longer to find a job than it may have in a good economy.

Webmaster has a lot of really good advice. So does everyone else. Also, in regards to the exotic dancing thing, quite honestly you will have a really hard time finding anything that isn't at least topless. If you can come to terms with that and be ok with it, then do it. If not, and you feel like dancing topless or naked would compromise your morals, don't do it. The money is not worth feeling like crap about yourself and what you are doing.

@All – Please try not to think of any job as a crappy little job, any work you do is something to be proud of and it should be treated as such regardless of what that job is.  Our benefit to mankind is in that which we produce so whatever you do, do it with your utmost ability and with absolute unfettered pride.

Have you looked on Craiglist for positions?  I have been finding more and more companies using this free site to post jobs.

thanks everyone! i am going to an "audition" at tilted kilt on monday for a serving job. TK is kinda like hooters but the chicks wear little kilts & they don't care if you have tattoos & facial piercings. hooters turned me down because they want "the girl next door look" & i am also very pale & i do not want to tan so that was a no no for hooters too!

the reason i can not get unemployment is because i was a "1099" employee 🙁

i do not think any job is too small however, i moved into my home in 2005 (when the economy was on & poppin') so i need to clear like $2,500 a month to make ends meet! thank goodness i paid my car off last year so if i loose everything at least i have my health, my pets, my car & my pole! lol!

I just wanted to share that indeed.com is a good place to look for jobs because it pulls up listings from multiple websites.  I used it when I was a vocational rehabilitation counselor and was looking for work for my clients.

The job market is tough right now, degree or no degree – I'm on the job hunt, myself. However, I will say that college can work against you because when you're desperate and applying at lower-wage jobs, they often won't hire you because you're "overqualified" (speaking from experience). And student loan payments can cost you a pretty good chunk of your income afterward (also speaking from experience). But a degree is still a good thing to have and ultimately will serve you well.
