My best advice to flow “block” is to just dance, dance, dance, dance, dance. Put on songs that make you want to move no matter what. Don’t worry about whether or not what you’re doing is a “move,” just do what feels good and keep moving–don’t let yourself stop and think!

I agree with polegirl and don’t stop… I can’t believe how many times I have thought I’ve messed up to the point of a showstopper and have carried on anyway and when watching realize that it was no where near as bad as my mind had placed it.

Uggghhh… I guess my last reply didn’t save?? Sorry if this is duplicate.

What helped me find my flow was filming freestyles. With the camera on, I couldn’t just walk away from the pole. It’s almost like being on stage, you must perform and keep dancing no matter how awkward that last move was. Yes, it creepy watching the playback, but after a while you’ll start to see your own unique style develop.

My friend and I are doing the #flowin52 challenge on Instagram. Each week of 2014, we’ll record a freestyle and post a clip of it for accountability. At the end of 52 weeks, we’ll look back on our dances and see how we’ve grown. You’re welcome to join us!

What do you wear when you are trying to freestyle? I usually wear typical pole fitness wear when practicing moves, combos, spins or whatever but if I know that I want to freestyle I will dress the part. Putting on something that makes me feel sexy (depending on the day that could mean cut-off jean shorts or a bikini or my 6″ pleasers) and doing my hair really lets me become someone else. And she is a much better dancer.
