Layback (cross ankle release) to brass monkey advice
Posted by yvonnesh336078 on May 22, 2024 at 9:49 amAny advice on what to think about and focus on for transition from a cross ankle release to brass monkey? I find I am not able to twist my body into position and trying to release my legs first. But I can’t seem to get around how to twist my body without releasing the cross ankle grip. https://youtube.com/shorts/XjYx2nz5fgs?si=xPLEuaxbJvmrUdgE

Hmmmm I don’t know that I’ve ever done a cross ankle into brass monkey. I would have to try it to help. I would think that entry wouldn’t provide the most secure grip for the knee pit. Do you have a video of someone successfully doing this transition?
Is there a reason you’re wanting to do this entry into brass monkey? Have you tried all the options in my brass monkey tutorial?

Yes I was working on the combo as part of a routine. Here is a video I found online (at 1:11) https://youtu.be/wRgeZ4TPCxo

Ok first, how solid is your Brass monkey and which entries have you tried from my tutorial? What programs have you finished or are working on, it’s ok if it’s none. Also if it’s none, are you following the Advanced lessons in order or just trying tricks you find interesting?
Knowing these answers will help me safely direct you.

If you can answer my questions, I’d love to help you figure this out.
I’ve made a little video doing this combo, but I don’t feel comfortable sharing until I know where you are in your progress here 🙂

Thank you, apologies as I was having a mini break! I’m pretty comfortable in my brass monkey but I only do it from a side sit mainly. I’m not super comfortable in my cross ankle release. In your program, I currently only pick and work on tricks that I like or I’m having issues with, which is sometimes an issue I do realise as I have certain more basic tricks that I’m not so comfortable with.

Ok that helps me know how to direct you. I don’t suggest picking tutorials at random. I strongly feel people have the best results and safest learning experience when they follow the order in which the tutorials are listed, or pick a 30 day program to follow. Not working on tricks in order often makes the learning process harder and longer because you’ve not taken the time to learn the basics that allow tricks to build on themselves.
I have made a little video of this transition for you and will post it with tips later on. However, I don’t want you to attempt it until you feel %100 secure in your Cross ankle release or Cross knee release.
Work on the Cross ankle release https://www.studioveena.com/tutorial/cross-ankle-release-1034/ or Cross knee release https://www.studioveena.com/tutorial/cross-knee-release-1032/ and the related videos until it becomes very comfortable.
