I find that i am physically strong enough to do most of the new moves we are learning. My problem lies in my lines and flow. I have a hard time straightening my legs and my moves don’t flow. Even basic floor work looks like a toddler rolling around. The way i feel when i dance is sooooo different from how it looks when i dance. Any suggestions for improving lines, fluidity, and flexibility?

    Practice practice practice practice

    🙂

Pole is not just about getting a move it is about moving into and out of that move with style and grace. That is only accomplished by doing said move a few hundred (thousand) times.

ditto. it takes soooo much time and practice to get ‘what you think you look like’ and ‘what you actually look like’ to match up.

Yeah, practice, and just being aware of your lines while you practice will help. If you have the lessons and are looking for combos to work on that have flowing movement without inverts and advanced work take a look at the combos in the routines section. I think there’s about 30 combos.

Definitely start video taping yourself if you don’t already. Even if you don’t want to share it with anyone that is okay. It will allow you to see what you actually look like vs. What you think you look like. Then go back to basics start with simple transitions and basic spins, really focus on pointing your toes, straightening your legs fully, or what your hands are doing, and of course doing it with a natural relaxed looking smile. By going back to basic moves you won’t have to think about where you’re hands and feet go because your muscle memory already knows that, you can put the extra effort and thought into making it all look fantastic. Then do it a thousand times ha ha ha. As far as flow and grace goes… practice practice practice. I was about as graceful as a newborn giraffe when I started pole nearly 5 years ago. Now I find myself stunned by my own videos sometimes.

I agree with everyone here. I have been poling for 3 years now and I’m just now going back to the basis of every trick I know and working on fluidity, clean lines, and gracefulness. When I look back on some of my past videos, I can see a huge improvement. I have even went back to a basic pole climb and learned how to make it look very sensual. It’s really hard to go back and re-learn every trick you have ever done.
