    Just an FYI- the type of allergy testing you would need to get would be patch testing. This would test for a variety of metals at the same time.

    Guys – I am over-whelmed by all the kind and thoughtful replies, you guys are the best! I'm so glad I found this website and this discussion thread because i've been suffering alone with this for so long, I was starting to give up hope!

    hi, a few weeks ago Prana from France came by for a workshop.. and it turned out she was allergic to something in the chromepole.. I guess it was nickel too. She taped the x-pole with a layer of clear tape and it works pretty well she said. And the tape will give you some extra grip.. so that s another plus 😉 Hope that helps.. as it is a cheap alternative 😉

    At the Xpert training they told us that some people might have allergic reactions when using a chrome pole due to a nickle allergy. They suggested the stainless steel pole instead.

    I am allergic to nickel, and I haven't had any issues with reacting to stainless. I think well used chrome flares up my eczema. I do believe stainless steel can have nickel in it too, but you'd probably have to be pretty darn sensitive to nickel to react to it as it would in integrated throughout the metal of the pole, whereas chrome has a layer of nickel.
