opportunity to host event/jam/competition/show in TEXAS
Posted by Sapphirecatzeye on February 1, 2010 at 10:02 pmOk, so on mondays I get paid to go out to a nightclub in the area and teach the women free pole 101 lessons as a way to draw in more girls to dance at the pole they have there (its NOT a strip club btw)
The owner of the nightclub was looking at my myspace and all the ladies i have who love pole as my friends and what not. He said it was opening his eyes to a great culture of people who are really "into it" lol as he says.
He said he has access to hosting some kind of a convention, pole competition , show or event. Maybe either at his nightclub, or somewhere else in downtown Houston. Depending on how many people would be up for getting together.
So he wanted my ideas on what to do.
So…
I’m asking you ladies, what would be a good idea. There isnt a Miss Pole Dance Texas, competition yet. Or maybe a show? I dunno, I would need alot of help from the community and it would be a group collaboration. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Ideas…?? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gifVoodoochild replied 14 years, 10 months ago 10 Members · 26 Replies -

which club is it? that can make a big difference and how he wants to promote it. especially when it is a male owner..sometimes they want to push the whole sexual, 3 girls on the pole thing which i know my students would not be into. my other location in atlanta…we did something for a club and it was nothing like we wanted. we didnt even get a chance to pick out our own music. we discussed these things beforehand but then they changed it up at the last minute…but it was his club so there wasnt much that we could do.
but i do know of other pole dance studios who have paired up with dance clubs and it has been successful. i would just want to pair up with someone who is going to promote all styles of pole dancing…artistic, sexy, bootyshakin’ style, and acrobatic styles.
just make sure everyone is on the same page as to what they want.

OOO OOO OOOO!!! YES!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif
I’m all for anything that will increase the social/community aspect of Texas poling! While there are lots of classes to be found, it seems like we are all out on our little islands.
My feeling for the club is to do something fairly small this time, like a show, but to work on putting together a bigger event for the future.
This idea sprung into my head when I read your post (perhaps because I was bouncing up and down!!) We should start a Texas Social Poling club. I know you started the Facebook group (woo hoo!), but I think we should go farther. I have this whole vision of periodic social poling events (pole jams or workshops or whatever), and also friendly competitions. Making an actual club would create a backbone for organizing events. Since TX is so big, I envision us having at least two regional groups. Then we could do a lot of "local" events, and then a small number of big regional events. It would definitely make organizing something like a Miss Pole Dance Texas easier. (Although, I wouldn’t go with the term "Miss", since some of us are "Mrs." and a few are "Mr.") https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
What do other people think about setting up a social club?

I had so much fun with the Dallas jam I’m game for just about anything. I love the idea of getting to spend more time with other polers.
Hey I found a pole studio in Amarillo… It’s called Night Songs. They are really limited though and I’m not crazy about that. I asked about open studio time and they only do that like once a month. Classes are once a week and are pretty pricey. But it’s a studio and I’m thrilled about that. I’m going Feb. 20 to check it out. That’s the first day they have for open studio. Wish me luck. I’d love to find a studio to call home.
Mindy I love your idea of a social network for Texas polers! Keep that mind rolling girl, you come up with good ones. As for competing. I still think I’m too old and have too far to still go for that but I’d love to show up and cheer everyone on!

Dont know why i didnt get to your posts earlier, guess it didnt notify me. Well he owns Club 494 in Kingwood. Its just a nightclub with a pole, but he is a business man who is into doing something where he can make business.
Everyone knows i am not the one to show case the more sexy side of pole, so I would def not be into something that was strictly for a headcount and based on that.
He was mentioning something that would have to have spectators be charged to watch (i guess a show/competition) he does catering, so he can supply drinks etc. And that would be the way for him to make money. He knows how to get in touch with renting out facilities. But he said we/I would have to be in charge of getting the right people together, and finding the right kind of poles.
Texas IS so huge, i dont know why pole isnt more prevalent in this state. maybe its cause its the south. I dunno. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif
Any more suggestions? things I should ask or tell him? -
does he want to hold the event at his club or another location?
-
He said either, But I thought a venue like a civic center or something would be better, since nightclubs can not always draw the kind of crowd that is really interested in pole dance.
-
hmmm…the uspdf is looking for studios/owners to host a regional. i am emailing them today to clarify some things. maybe that might be a good avenue.
-
I put together the California Pole Dance Championship in a club out here in Hollywood. 500 guests came out the watch the show. I might be interested in doing one out in Texes also if you get me some more info.
