pain behind knee when streching for splits
Posted by TaniaPL on January 12, 2015 at 3:20 pmHi everyone! When I streching for splits, especially when I strech my front splits, hurts behind my knee. I think it’s called “medial ligiment”. I have always warmed up well. I use “cleo’s rocking legs and abs” about 3 months, 3-4 times per week.

Hi Tania
It’s probably your hamstring what’s hurting. Cleo’s video is awesome but it is quite aggressive. I’d suggest you try the flow motion lessons from veena. They work wonders and are softer on your joints.

Danniacc you’re right, it’s my hamstring, not the medial ligament. Veena’s flow motion lessons are for splits? I want so badly to get my splits but I am patient and I don’t push myself.

veena has a front splits routine and a middle splits routine that are very helpful. I also like veena’s leg extension routine. it helps me to stretch that area behind my knee and helps to strengthen the front of the knee, allowing that behind the knee area to open up.

Lower body routine not leg extension routine. but yes, it helps with leg extension. guess that’s why I call it that in my head…

and if you are feeling pain you may be pushing to far into your stretch before you are ready, you may need more rest days between sessions or you may already have an injury that is being aggravated. Pain is not what you want to feel when stretching.

Have you tried googling trigger point treatment for the popliteal muscle?

I get this too, but more with my straddle and middles.. I just read a cool tip on the fb splitters group today which suggested putting rolled up towels under your knees when in straddle, then after a while as your hips open up the stretch moves to the meat of your muscle and you don’t need the towels anymore =] not sure how helpful it would be for fronts though..but thought I would mention it =]
