  • pike hold – crossing legs?

    Hi all!

So if I can do a straight legs pole sit, should I be able to get my legs kind of together for the pike hip hold? I haven't really concentrated on it, but from what I remember (haha I'm at work, daydreaming about pole =P) it's hard enough getting them within an inch of each other. And from pictures of other people doing it, it looks like their legs are nice and flush against each other or even crossed!

Is this a pole placement thing or a flexibility thing? I s'pooossse it's relevant to mention that I'm a little knock-kneed, but it's definitely not an extreme case. Only noticeable when I have to put my feet together in martial arts, since I have to pay attention to it and maybe bend one knee slightly. (Okay with the nice roomy pants. =P) If Rebecca Bross can do balance beam with her legs, I've got no excuses.

I have really meaty thighs and mine go together. There is going to be more push away with your thighs on thicker poles, but I use a 45 and 38…

It really comes down to squeezing hard with those legs.

Hi Muroo. I don't have a problem getting my thighs together, but if you are I have one suggestion. Try tilting your hips toward one side. This way you might be able to get more grip on the inside of the thigh.

Is there a video up of you doing pike? I think thatd be the best route for advice. I cross my ankles for stylistic purposes plus it feels more snug!

I will try all of these later and try to remember to report back. 🙂 I get the feeling I just need to play around with positioning…

so frustrating thinking about pole when I'm nowhere near one. 🙂

nolaelle, I also would like to cross my ankles for those purposes. 🙂 I feel like I've been avoiding thigh holds where the legs aren't crossed because I'm mentally convinced it just doesn't work. if my legs aren't physically locked together then I have no confidence I can make them stay…=P

Can you do a Tuck hip hold? Go from there and then extend the legs in to Pike. Yes, a video would help.

Sometimes when I’m first learning something, I start out with crossed legs until I’m comfortable. I work on prettying it up later.
