pole and healing.

Almost two years have passed since I have danced, as I was caring fpr my sister who died from ovarian cancer three weeks ago. I intend to dance through this grief, and regain the physical strength I lost due to neglect. I love pole. How has pole helped you through trying times? What is it about this medium that inspires growth beyond measure ?

I truly believe that our bodies were meant to move. Sometimes getting lost in the music and just letting the emotion flow through every inch of your body has healing powers beyond belief.

I lost my dog after last week after the neighbours dog dug a hole under our fence and bit him.. He was my furbaby, my family and my only compainion (hubby works away)
Pole and the girls at my studio are the only thing that has gotten me through the past week (officially a week today) Losing yourself in a song or concentrating on a trick really does help.. I’d be a mess without pole -
I almost always fall back on pole dance when I go through hard times, including when my sister was in the hospital and her life was fading, dance was how I coped with the situation. The only exception was when my dad passed, it took time for me to feel like dancing again. However, when I did finally dance, it was very healing.

I also feel like I use pole dance as a form of therapy or self-medication. It helps me vent my emotions and calm my nervous and it also reminds me of the beauty in the world, and how amazing it is to have a healthy body capable of such awesome mobility. Interestingly it’s often when I’m feeling intense emotions of sadness or anger that I dance my best. Almost like I have more to give when I’m feeling upset.

Pole gets me back to myself… Nothing else exists, nothing else matters, connecting with the body is so pure, aware, and honest. When times got really hard for me, the last thing I wanted was to connect with myself, but when I started to see light at the end of the tunnel, spinning myself around that pole started pushing me forwards! So sorry to hear about your hard times, much love for your healing journey!

It seems to never fail, pole dance always helps my outlook. All I need is that perfect song, and to allow my emotions to pour out when I dance. Then all is right with the world.

Pole dance helps heal my depression like nothing else 🙂

Absolutely agree about pole helping with depression, it keeps me smiling. Pole has helped me through a heart attack 2 months ago, although I have had to take it easy, and the sudden death of my uncle 2 weeks ago. It has a magic healing to it

Without going into too much details about many reasons why depression is the monster, let just say, whenever it came knocking-I beat the beast out the door with poling, on top of gardening so yes! it works! 🙂

I too have had a life changing experience through pole dance.It has been the snowiest and coldest winter I have ever experienced. In years past, I would have been miserable and unable to find an ounce of motivation to go to the gym. My pole practice changed all of that.I can’t miss class for anything! Not even this weather! I’ve been happier and healthier all winter!

For me there is nothing as therapeutic as pole, I feel very fortunate to have such a healing aspect to turn to when the skies get dark. Especially if I’m feeling anxious, seems to bring me back to center in a gentle way. Movement releases and inspires!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I share common ground with you on pole as therapy. It can be therapeutic in so many ways. Not only can it be a medium to touch and work through pain too hot to touch any other way, but it can be simply an escape to a private moment of joy when everything else feels joyless. Sometimes pole has been serious therapy time for me, and sometimes–when things have been at their darkest–I’ve unexplainably felt the need to put on a high energy, sexy song and shake it. Perhaps just to feel joy in every part of my body when I’m having trouble believing I will ever feel joy in my heart again. I think pole dancing is therapeutic for many people and for many reasons.

Pole dance has enormously helped me recover from an abusive relationship. A lot of the time, it’s been the one thing to get me up and going for the day. I love that it’s a great exercise to lift my spirits, as well as a way to express my emotions through dance and music. 🙂

I was surprised by the realization that with the physical strength gained from pole came emotional strength. Healing from a protracted and ugly divorce, with recurring drama. The stress prompted physical illness, time off the pole — and it was discouraging to have to start over. Over time, it became the measure of my recovery.
