I like hatha yoga the best. Deep slow breathing and stretching. No silly chanting. 😉

I recommend a few classes with an instructor for proper alignment and such, but if you're comfortable checking yourself and want to try out different styles you can go to yogatoday.com. They have free hour long classes offered each week that change in style and focus (and recently added 30 min sequences that they post on their blog each week). You can also pay for a membership to access all their classes or just pay for the ones you want to download. They have a few full length ones on their youtube channel as well (scroll to some of their oldest videos) along with lots of really nice short ones. If you use itunes, they have podcasts that are from 6 to 30 min long.

I like their classes (most are filmed outside so you get pretty scenery!) and it helps you find styles you like, while introducing you to other ones you might not otherwise try. Plus when you're broke and living in the middle of the woods (that sounds kinda creepy, I swear it's not), it's convienent and cheap/free! 🙂

I do A LOT of yoga… a lot. Many think I get my body definition from pole but honestly it's from yoga. I started in summer 2010 and it made me much more flexible plus enhanced my form, endurance, core and stamina. It stretches out your muscles that tend to tighten during pole.

In general, I do different types of vinyasa. My favorites are sankalpah, dharma, moksha and baron baptiste. Also have done brahma, yogafit, jivamukti, bikram, coba, hot yoga, ashtanga, iyengar, yin, barkan, hatha, open vinyasa, hot vinyasa. There are so many to choose from. I choose teachers for their style and have class cards to diff studios.

hey rixi – i like shiva rea's "yoga shakti" dvd the best.  you get to choose from a menu of four different practices.  it's my favorite.  i also like rodney yee's "power yoga" and "intermediate yoga" dvd's.  i studied for many years when i was much younger.  there are many different styles, but there is really only one yoga.  "hatha" yoga just refers to the branch of yoga that deals with the bodily postures (there are other branches such as breathing, meditation, etc.)  🙂

@heathalynne – wow, that is amazing that you have tried all of those styles, in less than two years!  you are lucky to have so many studios in your area (or do you travel?)

@tarah – Haha yes! I'm very lucky and blessed there's such a variety of practices in my area. I live in NJ and go to NYC once a week. Plus whenever I do travel, I make sure yoga is on my agenda. Vegas, Toronto, even Hershey Park. LOL!

I love all kinds of yoga as well, but hot yoga is my favorite right now. After a session my muscles are so warm, I can really practice on my flexibility training afterwards!

I've never taken a yoga class, only ever used dvd's or the ones on tv…my personal favorites are any from gaiam with rodney yee which you can find online or walmart usually has some. The tv show caribbean workout has brought their yoga workouts out on dvd and I got them off ebay, they're great because they specifically target areas such as core, lower body or flexibility. Last but not least when I want a yoga workout that will kick my butt strength wise I do jillian michaels yoga meltdown which you can find online or walmart might have it in. I also noticed ppl mentioning pilates which is an excellent workout for toning and creating long lean muscles and helps a little with flexibility. I have the caribbean workout pilates dvds as well which I enjoy but hands down winsor pilates from mari winsor is my favorite, I got mine from walmart years ago so if they don't still have it you can get them online. I always search ebay or amazon for cheapo deals. Hope this helpshttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I love yoga. It is awesome and a great workout that will be very beneficial in combination with pole fitness. Rodney Yee has great DVD’s out which are sold at Target and Wal Mart.
