First of all: it takes time . It took me 3 pole classes to climb and then 5 to climb to the top. Secondly, I weigh 170 so I KNOW you can do it! You just have I build strength

You will but it does take time. Honestly, weight has nothing to do with it, strength does. Work on building up your strength, then come back with full bragging rights when you do that first pole climb! 🙂

thanks everyone. i will try to remember what you both said when i am poling. just frustrated with myself. funny thing is my huz can swing around the pole like it takes no effort at all and look at me like "Why can't you do this? It's easy." Color me jealous;)

What many do not understand in the beginning is that pole climbs are probably 70-80% legs and the rest arms. People want to try to pull themselves up with their arms as opposed to pushing themselves up with their legs.

Don't forget that having a pole that is warm and warming up yourself can really make a difference! If you sweat a lot you'll slip, if you have dry skin and a cold pole you'll slip. Climbs are not easy and are totally strength building, most people can't do a pull up right away or even after a week, same goes for the climb. Keep at it and give it time.

I agree with chemgoddess, I was struggling with climbs when I was trying to use my arm strength versus my leg strength. Also, when I was first taught to climb, I was taught to have my arms fully extended. My son actually told me to bend my arms because its easier to pull up from a bent arm than a straight arm. Bingo!! Bent arms, clamp my knees together and stand using my leg strength. So much easier and a lot less exhausting :). Good luck!

Oh my gosh. I was trying with arms fully extended and just using my arms. I am definitely trying it with bent arms and leg power. I don't know why but I just had it in my head that I should be able to with just arm power. I'm trying your suggestions tomorrow morning . I bet I am able to. Thanks so much for the helpful tips:)

Good luck! I usually have my arms at about a 90 degree angle. Hope it helps!

When you say completely extended do you mean over-extended? Are you engaging. Most women hyper extend when extending also it is damn near imposible to lift with the arms straight without a little bend. You can also injure yourself by not engaging. Think shoulders up to ears and roll them back and down. Keep them there. You are no engaged :-p.
