Hi everyone. I was just watching pole dancing on youtube and suddenly struck how the sensual, down and dirtyness of pole dancing is just gone.

I became interested in it because of the few vids i watched that were so sexy , and sexual and very powerful in my opinion. If poledancing didn't have that I wouldn't have been interested.

    Just me thinking.

Everyone brings their own flair to pole dancing – whether that be sexy, poetic/artistic, athletic, or any combination of the above.

Perhaps you are seeing a lot of non-sexy videos because pole dancing has become so accessible to "laypeople," to women (and men!) of all ages, backgrounds, and physical abilities. For many, this is primarily a fitness activity, and the sexy side of it holds no appeal. To each her own, I say.

I definitely wouldn't say the sexy is gone from pole dance. It's definitely still there. And the abundance of non-exotic dancers is actually a good thing – it's chipping away at the public stigma around pole dancing, giving our ladies the space to be sexy and unashamed.

Pole Dancing in sensual or sexual way is different than stripping though. Stripping is taking off clothing.

I love the sexy side of pole dance and I was attracted to that as well. If you are looking for sexy videos try looking here! We have had several Monthly challenges where sexy was the goal.

Purely gymnastics style pole isn't fulfilling for me. I love artist pole and to me sometimes art is sensual or erotic!

This is one of my favorites I've ever done. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4e4acc99-7194-4ac3-89e1-6bf90ac37250

Check out November, 2011 chair dance challenge vids. Legend’s was super sexy. Or look at luckygirl’s floorwork vid to “Paper Planes” (my all-time fave sexy vid). Also, check out ottersocks “Naughty List” vid from last December. Those are just a few of my faves on this site. On YouTube, search “Bringing Sexy Back” and you’ll find tons of hot pole videos. Enjoy!

I think it's worth noting, too, that a lot of amateur dancers don't upload their sexiest stuff to YouTube, or don't make it publicly visible. (I know I set all my videos to Unlisted, so only people whom I give the link can see it, and I turn off comments.) YouTube can be a vicious, vicious place.

Another reason we're all so glad for StudioVeena! Rare to see any viciousness around here.

I think in general, the trend has been towards a more lyrical, "gymnastics" style in competition & therefore trickling down to the teaching approach. But every trend swings back around to whatever it has rejected…it's just how human interest in fads and approaches work ( I've had similar conversations in the bellydance community for years). I do think there's been push-back from folks that like the sexier ( whether that's sensual or straight-up stripper) side of pole and the videos suggested to you prove that. I think sexy will have its resurgence for a while and then who knows what new trend will emerge…LOL.

PS: I am a big fan of sexy AND strong. Lyrical pointiness & Amazonian levels of tricksiness doesn't look that good on me 😉 Doesn't mean I can't appreciate it in others but it's not what I aspire to or what moves me.

Watch ScarlettHoneys videos here. She fits into the definition of sexy.
Whenever I need inspiration, she is one of y favorites to watch.

Yes, Black Orchid. I feel the same way. I'm not a fan of the gymnastics for sure.

The suggested vids to watch do suggest a shift in trend. I'm glad of that.:)  donna

I was actually put down by the sensual, sexual part of pole for myself and attracted to the transfer of lyrical, contemporary and other dance styles into the pole. However, after watching this year's USPDF vids, I came to several conclusions: 1. Optional round is all about dance and dancers, floorwork, fluidity and choreography are of equal importance as tricks and combos, and are maybe the only thing that it is setting the contestants apart, because they are all at an amazing level. 2. I used to cringe at, and even sometimes skip pole dance videos with heels in them, I just felt they broke the clear line of legs and feet. However, after watching the absolute class that is the compulsory round, I changed my opinion. I think that that is just the right amount of sexy when it somes to this "sensual" style.

I think Russia set a very good example when it comes to pole dance competitions and preferences for certain style and amount of "gymnastic" vs. "sensual". They have artistic, acrobatic, sport and exotic divisions, and each of these accentuates a certain aspect of pole dance on which a particular performance is focused.

Personally, I don't agree that keeping the pole the "original", ie. the sensual way is the only way to go and that anyone doing something devoid of the sensual aspect is wrong, or even almost blasphemous to some :D. I think pole dance is a field wide enough to accept all sorts of styles and ways to do things. I am actually more annoyed that people assume that every pole dancer must necessarily incorporate certain models of movement in their routine, that a pole dancer must necessarily be interested in lap dance or chair dance, that a pole dancer is necessarily practicing pole dance to feel sexy, empowered or liberated, etc. Some pole dancers just dance because they feel like it or because it's a fun way to do fitness or they just want to express themselves as with any other art, and many other reasons.

Pole dance is not something stylistically limiting as for example salsa or other latin dances which REQUIRE sensual movement. I think that precisely this freedom of style is what makes pole dance so appealing to me.
