Hey guys so I’m having a well lets just say SHITTY situation https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

When I first set up my pole about to weeks ago, I hopped right on it and did some moves. ( It took us a whole day to fix our ceiling and get the pole to fit in my little basement) So I was just so happy to try it out. I know now NEVER EVER EVER….. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeerrrrrrrr to pole when i’m not warm. I have had many arm and joint issues. My knees constantly crack my wrists have been busted a few times and over all I can just see me hoping on the pole as a creeky bad idea, yet I did it.

Now I don’t remember the exact "action" or thing I did to hurt my elbow but I think it was just a bang on the elbow. It hurt at first but I didn’t think it was a huge deal.

But the next day my elbow was pretty sore I would move it side to side and around thinking by forcing it to move around and being able to handle the pain (my pain tolerance is very high I’ve been know to have a broken wrist for a week before I get a cast… aggg rugby ) so i was moving around and it did that tight pain thing but I didn’t think it was THAT bad. Then a few days later my wrist started acting up. Sort of sore yet my elbow felt fine. I couldn’t move my wrist back and forth (sideways). I but a wrist splint thing on it and that helps me force it not to move. If I don’t have something on it I forget and use it like I never hurt it.

So the wrist hurt a little and now I get strange pains in the elbow and my pinky and ring finger is tingling. I knew then I hit a nerve.

Now it only hurts when I’m trying to sleeping and the way i try to position my elbow and arm. I can move my fingers and everything and right now i just took off the wrist splint and my hands seem fine. Its just one way I move my elbow or wrist and bang the tingling and some uncomfortable feelings happen.

I went to the doctor and he told me I hurt my ulnar and It will take a long time to heal https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif He brushed me off and didn’t tell me much except to keep resting it. I basically have been doing all my research online ( which is SO SCARY) some sites talk about forever damage other carpol tunnel. Ugh I just don’t know the EXTENT of the damage. Did I really really eff it up or if I rest it for a long time will I be good again? Or is this tingling and pain just something else to add to my long list of pains to learn to deal with.

I feel like im living in a 50 year olds body and i’m only 19 https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I have had so many injuries the past 3 years that by the time i am 50 i;ll be so stiff. Thats part of the reason I wanted to pole, to keep me in shape and keep me flexible so I can not feel 50 when I am 50 https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif now I have pain in my hand like a old person..great

This ulnar injury is really making me upset. I just got my pole, i see people poling and I want to go practise. I want to go to the gym but I cant lift with my arm and I don’t want my right side to get all worked out and have a weak left arm:(

I’m just happy its not on my good arm but still. I can’t lie I’ve still been on the pole. Not using my left arm but trying and learning my known spins with one hand. But still I wanted to put my 110% into poling and going back to working out and now i feel like i’m 2000 steps back.

I just don’t know the extent of how I should rest it and how its going to effect pole. This just sucks:( https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif boo! I was just wondering if any of you ladies have delt with a similar thing. I’m trying to figure it out on my own since the doctor isn’t good for much except to tell me what the name of the nerve is. Should I just quit poling all together. I don’t think I could my pole stares at me everyday https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I’m going to be so behind. Any ideas how long it will take of rest for a hurt ulnar nerve. I don’t even know the extent of the damage. Ugh thanks for reading ladies and I hope someone out there in Studio Veena land can help out with any sort of info or any advice on the ulnar nerve. AGHH there I’m done typing i’ve gone on long enough pfffff !!

sorry for the depressing self pity tone but really i’m just so upset I could cry i’m such a BABY when https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I don’t or can’t get what I want boo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

That just sucks utter suckiness!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif

I went through something a little similar 3 months ago, I needed an operation on my back to remove a lump that was just spreading a bad infection. The doctor didn’t tell me exactly what caused it but all he could give me was different theories such as not enough exercise…too much exercise…stress…poor back strength etc.
I feel your pain when you say your pole is just standing there staring at you, I’ve been advised to say off the pole or from doing any "extreme exercise" until the wound area on my back has completely healed up and the skin has strengthened itself up again. Even now after 3 months, it’s STILL healing!! My pole is set up right in the middle of my bedroom and it’s just standing there…yelling at me to be poled on! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

I may not be a great deal of help but all I can think of is maybe go to your local hospital and see another doctor or health profession? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif They may be able to fill you in more and give you more information on an ulnar nerve, perhaps maybe give you an X-ray or some sort of scan? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I think your one step ahead already from doing research. Maybe you could see a physiotherapist to give you exercise or movements to help strengthen up your arm again? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif These are just suggestions to what I would do if I was in your situation, but it’s definitely worth going back and founding out for sure what can be done about it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Sorry if I haven’t answered all your questions or been a massive help, I read your post and thought I could give you some ideas on what you can do https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Good luck with everything and I send you great big HUGS! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I had damaged my unlnar nerve my 3rd month into poling….not pole related ( i was sewing and banged my "funny bone" into the back of a chair" My fingers were numb for over 5 days) so I went to the dr. They told me it was nerve damage. They did some test to see how quick the nerves were reacting. I had to stay off the pole and away from over stressing it for a month. Killed me!!! It still flares up some times if I bump it or something during floorwork or on a chair again. I was told by the dr if my fingers didn’t regain feeling soon I may need surgery, but it ended up fine. Not much can be done for nerves….rest!!!! I also wore a stiff elbow brace so I wouldn’t inadvertently bang it or bend it. I just took it really slow when I started to feel better and it was fine. It only affected my fingers….and using my triceps heavily was out until the nerve had settled down. The inflammation had to go down so the never could slide through the "tunnel" without irritation. So don’t lean on the elbow or sleep with it bent avoid things that are repetitive and stressing until its better. Light stretching is good…or so I was told. Don’t stress… it killed me to stop dancing for 5 weeks but its worth it if it meant I can pole now.

One last thing, A yr after my injury I saw a great massage therapist that was super helpful with releasing the fascia more around the nerve maybe something you might want to look into, just make sure they know what their doing. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Ahh thank you ladies, Your right I just need to rest it up. Even if it kills me to avoid the pole! BOO!! I’m going to try and look into seeing another doc and getting a second opinion. Wow veena 5DAYS?? thats crazy mine just tingle on and off everyone in a while. Come to think they haven’t tingled all day yesterday but then my hand starts to feel weird. Injuries come with all sports and pole is no different. I’m going to look into those elbow brace things because i’m constantly bending and I can feel that its not good for it at all. Thnaks for the advice ladies hugs and kisses to you all!!

I’ve damaged my right ulnar nerve as well and still get a numb ring finger if I do anything repetitive. REST IT UP! Don’t do what I did and keep poling! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

Also, I found ever since my injury, I have lost a lot of range of motion in my right wrist. I’ve never gotten it back. Does anyone know how I can increase my wrist flexibility again? What what I SHOULD have done (and what Micca shoudl be doing) to prevent the loss in motion range?

I am constantly rotating my wrists. I work in an office and use the keyboard constantly. I also have one of the gel pads to rest my wrists on.

One thing I do at the gym to help with my wrist strength is weights. Start out with small weight (no bigger than 5lbs), hold it with your palm facing up. Fingertips looking towards you. Lay your arm on something flat with your weight and wrist hanging over. Your going to pull up the weight with your wrist. I do about 10-15 of them and switch to the opposite way. Then your fingers facing down and pull up.

The strength in your wrists come from your forearms. Thats why baseball players have big forearms since its better grip for them for the bat. Ive been doing that and have felt a difference in my wrists and my grips.

I got that exercise from my husband. Hes a former personal trainer and he has a degree in exercise science. So hes my go to for training outside of pole.

Veena – What muscles did you stretch for that injury? I think computer work has angered my ulnar nerve (and sleeping with my arms bent.) I'm pretty sure it's originating in my elbow since my fingers don't feel as tingly when I straighten my elbow…

My injury was just a blunt hit to the nerve. I didnt do any stretches for it massage and time healed the nerve 🙂
