recent blog post about pole and ‘bulking up’
Posted by Krista Bocko on January 23, 2015 at 5:47 pmI saw a post in my FB news feed in the last couple weeks about how telling women they won’t ‘bulk up’ when they build muscle is just not true. I can’t remember much more, but I really liked the post and wanted to re-read it, but can’t find it or remember where it was posted. Anyone else see it?

hm id be curious to see that article cuz really both can be true depending on how your train
-
Indeed it depends how you train and how much you eat while training
-
It’s about genetics and body type…ectomorph mesomorph endomorph are the 3 main types but that’s a broad generalization! Some women will bulk up quickly and fairly easily others would have to eat just right, do the right kinds of exercises and rest the right amount to bulk. It’s all about the right training for your body💪

ahhh ha yeah it makes me chuckle a bit when i hear people say ‘don’t worry, pole dancing will never bulk you up!’ or ‘don’t worry girls, it’s physically impossible for you to build lots of muscle your body is built differently to guys !!’ A-hem. i invite any of those people to step up and feel/have an eye poked out haha with my popeye arms/shoulders/and now FOREARMS!? !! Hmm…!! ever since starting pole dancing a year ago I am now one of the muscliest girls in my whole gym; and i am definitely the most visibly muscly out of all my pole friends.. but am i the strongest / or best pole dancer?? helllll no! one of my mates gawps at my muscles then hops on the pole and does stuff i am still dreaming of doing =P my muscles just seem to have popped up out of nowhere hehe. but then even as a kid i always felt strong, esp for my size and y’know.. for a GIRL =P and i have encountered girls who would love to build some more muscle but really struggle….. AS veena says there just are different body shapes who react differently to the same stimuli… Horses for courses, different strokes for different folks!!

Yep, agreed! I build muscle VERY quickly, and pole definitely has been the thing that does this the quickest – and that’s saying something since I used to lift weights, and heavy weights at that! Some of the strongest girls in our classes don’t have visible muscle tone, and some of them do. It’s all in the body type!

Completely agree. Like polekat and allgold, I’m one of those girls who builds bulky muscle easily. But based on my pole classes and years of being active, I’d say we are definitely in the minority among women. Most of the other polers I know don’t look muscly at all. In my case, I figure if I’m going to get bulky arms from any workout I do, then I might as well be able to do something awesome with them. Guys are always commenting on my arm muscles and don’t seem to know whether to be impressed, disgusted, or scared. I choose to take it as a complement and I just think to myself, if only they knew!

Yes!!! Agree completely here. In the beginning the comments felt good , then as the muscle grew it felt differently. … Like they were not a healthy bunch of muscles? For me i was not giving my body enough nutrients and or rest, Not conditioning or strengthening just dance and a few trick practices and no stretching. However since I have changed my routine and took quite a break I fell in love with yoga and I have seen a big difference in my muscles and lines honestly!! My stomach has never felt so tone and now when i see my muscles in the morrow they are less bulky and more lean and long 😉 im sure this yoga life has helped me slow down to understand the importance of all the areas that need to be considered with pole ! I must admit I came to pole for the dance, then realized I was strong and could do tricks… So as far as Veena goes – you are amazing. Thank you for being so thorough , you have helped me take pole serious , it is serious. 🙂
