I went to Home Depot and bought a silicone-based lubricating spray. Been using it for nearly 4 years without any problems.

I am not exactly sure what you are greasing (is this the old style?)

What to look for is an antiseize lubricant if you are talking threads on the old style X Pole.

I’m talking my xpert, this one is about for months old. it’s the threads on the bottom, the part that screws it upwards. The bearings are fine, but it’s becoming very difficult to take down and put up

A light machine oil like 3 in 1 should be fine for that.  On the old style X Poles and the PS poles you want an antiseize as the poles will basically fuse together over time.  This is just an adjuster.  Stay away from anything like WD40 or PB Blaster as a lubricant, as that is not really what they are designed for.

BTW, if you have an electric razor or sewing machine, those oils are similar to 3 in 1.

As an engineer I find that by far the best is a synthetic grease containing PTFE.  The PTFE coats the threads with same material as on a non stick pan making them slide very smoothly (even if the liquid of the lubricant dries out)  This type of grease (or oil) is readily obtainable from any cycle shop.  The one I use is called 'Super lube'  and is made in the USA,  but there are lots of different makes.  If you get any on the pole it will wash off with alchohol.
