I've seen a RG into a traditional invert… Karol Helms taught it in a workshop last summer. I imagine RG into SM would involve a repositioning of hands (at least for me it would) but would be doable.

I have seen this done but it was more of a bicep mount…in other words the pole instead of on your shoulder ends up between your shoulder and elbow (on your lower arm)  …

It would involve being able to do I believe what is called a princess grip shoulder mount (think Felix's grip in her SM's).  I remember seeing this a few years back at East Meets West I believe but I cannot remember who it was that did it in her rountine.

    i have a video for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWYvPp1vpho&list=FLv21GYODaK-XxO-oYg_o_-A&index=3&feature=plpp_video

she does two spin combos starting in a reverse grab and ending in a shoulder mount

you can do it from a RG, but you end in a twisted/princess grip shoudler mount. i prefer (personally) the carousel into shoulder mount– you end in a SM with one hand forward and the other cupped and it feels much better on my top wrist! =)

amy I just got so excited I tried your Carousel mount /SM (despite being ordered off the pole by my doc, haha).  Are we talking about the same thing?  I do this as parts of combos all the time but usually I turn in to my underarm/forearm grip and aerial invert.  That's what I did except I turned even further onto the shoulder and cupped … it worked and it really fun!!!  I can't believe I never thought of this.

I've done the SM from reverse grab a handful of times, but it feels like it's gonna rip my shoulder off … one of the worst-feeling things I've ever tried.  I have been banging my head trying to find a cool spinning way to shoulder mount.

OK … More more more!!  Give me another one 🙂

Amy, do you have a link to your carousel to SM? I would love to see it.

I want to see too, but try watching emotioncatcher's video above in the meantime.  It's not a carousel into SM, but it shows the concept of turning into a forward spin to get your shoulder on the pole.  The one you want to watch is the "High 5" at 0:50.  She does this combo:

    Reverse grab (with a straddle)

    Chair spin

Back knee hook.  To get from chair spin to reverse hook, she "turns in" her free shoulder to the pole to reverse the direction of her torso.  That's the key!

    SM.

The reverse hook into SM is the same idea as going into figurehead and from there into aerial SM.

sorry ladies! ugh, i really should video more– i dont have a clip of the RG to SM or the carousel to SM, but the fluffier and airier your carousel, the easier it will be to get your body horizontal into the SM… also, if you start your spin wih your right hand on the pole, your left shoulder will be on the pole in your SM. does that help? i can try recording next time i'm in the studio if i remember =)

i think i´ll need some more tipps. i wanted to try it and my problem was that my upper arm is of course straight when i do a carousel spin, so after twisting around into the sm position it´s still straight, but it should be a bit bend for the sm.

hope you understand what i mean, i would love to get this combo =)

emotion, that makes perfect sense =) i do go into it with top arm straight, though- so yes, it takes more strength then if you have both arms bent.

i dont have anything close but this– i was trying to figure out how to go into a SM from a dip/half spin, not a carousel, but the body positioning is exactly the same. @ 14 seconds in.
