I have a problem where I need a bit of advice and also I guess comforting too. Going through the threads on rotator cuff injuries it seems that unfortunately lots of you have personal insights on this. The story is that next weekend I planned to go to a pole camp (the first time) and i was really excited about it. Everything is paid and ready… well, except my shoulder, non-dom, but still. In hindsight I would say that it was my mistake. Felt mild pain in some moves already couple of weeks ago, but i was super excited about my “lucky strike” – new moves came finally so easy – even dream moves like extended butterfly, so i trained despite the pain. Also i wanted to show off at home and although made proper warmup then after few harder moves felt my shoulder more than this earlier mild pain. Since then my shoulder is a bit stiff and painful in the mornings, but later it feels only when i do some moves that require rotation, like turning steering wheel. I visited chiro and he told that it is rotator cuff that has a bit hurt, nothing serious and I will go see him a day before poling camp. So I havent pole now for two weeks and putting some inflammatory medication on it, but i still feel the pain in the shoulder down to my bicep when i raise my arm and turn outwards.
Based on your experience, is it at all realistic to hope my shoulders gets healed and strong enough for pole camp? What has helped you in your recovery? Or is there a way i can get through the pole camp even with injured shoulder without doing more damage, but not just sitting and watching. Thanks in advance for your help. I feel so down and sad… dont want to give up yet

    Hey there!
Unfortunately, it really depends on the severity of your injury. It’s hard to know how quickly you will heal, because it’s hard to know how badly it’s been damaged!
Best thing I could recommend for now is rest, ice, and seeing how it does with that.
The other question is this: Is the pain happening when you lift your elbow? Because it shouldn’t be hurting in your bicep unless it’s tendinitis in your bicep. This can be easily mistaken for rotator cuff tendinitis, as it was for me for quite a while! The pain for the bicep is often in the front of the shoulder, and happens when you lift your elbow (with either a bent or straightened arm), and especially when you are holding something weighted.
I found ice to be more effective than anti-inflammatories, and rest is your best medicine. I also occasionally massage the area to try to loosen it.
    Hope this helps!

Thanks, Runemist, I really appreciate your advice. Actually, you may be absolutely right. most of the pain is indeed in front of the elbow and exactly how you describe. I always thought and the chiro also said that the pain runs from the shoulder or even from the back as he mentioned at my earlier appointment that I have hurt my back muscles while prepping for shoulder mount and this pain can beam to the bicep. At that time my shoulder wasnt that much hurting and it was difficult to make sense from where the pain actually came from. The chiro is a new one as my previous one who fixed my back left to work abroad and I really dont know how good this new chiro is, but he seems quite beginner, I’ll try to find someone better. Anyway I’m now heading to ice my bicep instead my shoulder and definitely give some rest.
