Congratulations! I’m guessing it’s a lot more exciting than epilating!

No one mentioned the best tip for shavers. Apply invisible deodorant stick to the area after. The deodorant salts prevent razor bumps, and the coating protects the skin from chafing.

I like shaving using hair conditioner better then soap or shaving cream. I’m only half way through my laser treatments so I still have to shave a bit although nothing like pre laser. And like Amy the place I go doesn’t use the gel but the cooling stuff comes out of the laser.

i was at the doc for my cyst issue (theres a post on that in the health forum) and she strongly advised me not to use a regular razor on the backside area-i guess it would be the same for the genital area. she said the razor will put tiny nicks in your skin which for me makes me vulnerable to skin infections. so she recommended using a mens type shaver (like the rotating 3 blade thing) for any backside hair removal…just something to keep in mind if u have skin problems like me

Micro-tears causing vulnerability to the protective function of skin is a great point made. Another tip for delicate skin vulnerable to infections is to apply rubbing alcohol daily. Alcohol dries and toughens the skin like leather. It’s used in nursing homes to prevent pressure sores especially on the buttocks. Witch hazel is sold in an alcohol solution. Most (artificially) scented body sprays are in an alcohol base.

I will never shave her again. Full Brazilian is the way to go. I’ve been getting them for about a year and now it hardly grows back! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Plus she stays sooo smooth for about 2 weeks and when hair comes back it’s not coarse. If you can get past the first 3 you’re golden! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

    Good luck!

waxing doesn’t work that well for everyone scain….in two weeks I have enough growback to look like someone who just trims with sissors. For me laser is the only option for being totally save free. And waxers hate when you shave in between visits lol I would wax then start shaving about 6 days later. by the end of a month I would be shaving everyday again. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

I know several people have mentioned Nair.  There is a similar product which I find works better for me called Veet.  It doesn't take as long as the former and seems to take longer to grow back in.  Just wanted to contribute the very little widsom I have.

Thanks for being brave enough to start this discussion board.  I had always wondered what people did, what works, what doesn't, and how to deal with just the whole garsh darn deal!

I got my first Hollywood wax done today (not sure what it's called in every country but it's basically where everything is taken off!) To be honest, it wasn't half as bad as I imagined it would be. Of course there were certain parts that hurt more than others but on a scale of 1-10, I'd rate the pain a 4 in the bad spots! The real discomfort is now really, it's been like 15 hours since I had it done and I still feel a bit tender but it's not that bad. Overall, not that painful of an experience at all, I really expected much, much, much worse! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I got some spray off the waxer to start using in 2-3 days to prevent ingrowns, this is my main concern having been an epilator user for a while, I know only too well how ugly ingrowns are. So hopefully this spray will minimise any of that!

Yeah my gal said to exfoliate and moisturize daily to prevent ingrown hairs. To alleviate the pain during and after I take 2 iBuprofen. It helps ALOT!

I shave- I use a brand new razor everytime. BRAND NEW. While in the hot shower, I slowly and with small strokes gradually shave off all the hair.  To make the area accessible, I hike my leg up on the wall of my shower.  I use my hands to feel- because I can't see.  After the shower, to get the area towards the back (my crack) i squat over a mirror and carefully and slowly, with short strokes remove that hair.  As far as the direction the shaving strokes go: that can be tricky and hard to explain.  Just be thoughtful and aware.  Also- I found some nice tiny razors, made for the bikini area, at Target.  The blades are half the size of regular razors, so those work nicely- if you are willing to pay a little extra.

Shaving is probably the most cumbersome method for hair removal in that area, but I am just not sure I want to be hairless permanently- yet.  And I'm not interested in paying for a brazillian… yet.
