so ,.. is this how u get into thos move?
Posted by jennyjenny on January 2, 2012 at 1:14 amTomorrow Im going back to my pole class,. she said we will be working on the allegra next. So ,.. i looked on this website for it : http://poledancedictionary.com/moves/311/allegra/ is it basically like going into an invert– then hook the right leg around the pole , left hand holds you up – move right arm over leg and the grab foot with bottom hand?? or am i soo wrong? lol

Hi Jenny! I think you got it quite right! I just want to point out how important it was- at least for me- to have a really good grip with the inside "right" arm (the arm holding behind the thigh of the leg that's hanging on the pole). If that grip doesn't feel secure, you won't feel comfortable with arching your back. Good luck!

thanks so much 🙂 looking foward to trying this move tomorrow 🙂

Jenny, please please please be very careful with this move. I know a LOT of people who have cracked and bruised ribs doing this move.

I find the best way to avoid rib pain is to make sure the pole is running perfectly along my waist where it's nice and squishy. I like to get into it from a flatline scorpio so I can shift around and get the pole exactly into the groove between my ribs and pelvis before gripping the pole and dropping back.
You can hold onto the pole either with your thumb up, or down depending on which feels more comfortable (or what your instructor says).
Grabbing my foot required a lot more back flexibility than I expected! After months of practice I can still only do it in heels and I have to flail around a bit to grab my foot/stiletto heel. A "straight" allegra, where you have both legs straight and don't grab your foot is much easier.

Jenny are you trying to get into the move before you go to class? If you're paying for instructions, hopefully you have a good resource and should learn from your teacher.

thanks all of yall and no not really trying to know it before class just trying to have what shes talking about it mind. kinda like reading the chapter before the class discusses it

I just posted this on my you tube channel. I call it the "Rib Cracker." I have to really push the pole as close to my to top of my hip as I can. I certainly haven't mastered it, but at least I didn't break my ribs this time. That kept me off the pole for a very long time. Ribs are hard to heal.
