I learned to do the extended butterfly first…. You have 2 hands and 1 foot/ankle on the pole in the butterfly as opposed to just 2 hands with ayesha…. I worked on that and my core strength and balance than I moved from the butterfly to the aysha… I would bring the extended leg back into the pole…. Slowly lower my feet on the pole.. Take 1 leg off… 2 legs off… Then work on straightening out my legs
I’m sure there’s other ways to learn it but I liked doing it this way cause it was like little tiny steps.. And I didn’t feel like I was failing cause I could take 1 step at a time

I have not been able to find my balance for this move for over a year (maybe 2 now). If you cannot do an extended butterfly though you need to work on that first!

I wasn't able to do that move for 2 years. I learned the twisted grip fast for some reason. The other day when we tried to invert on our weak side I got the split grip aysha. I was never able to do it when I inverted on my dominant side because then I would have to balance on my weak arm/hand. When I go into the twisted grip my dominant hand thats on the bottom is the left one. So when I invert on my weak side I place my left hand on the bottom and I can go right into the split grip. The arm that you are using is probably too weak to balance. You need to have a strong arm for that move. Try inverting on the other side. Its going to be a pain but it might work like it did for me.

thank you for the tips! i do need to work on my ext butterfly first. will work on that for tonight's class. also i will try to invert on my weak side like wanda suggested. i always invert on my left so after i invert, the inside hand is my left which is my non dominant hand.
so after so many fails on the ext butterfly and split grip aysha today and almost crying, i decided to try the elbow grip – and got it the first time WTF. but NO im not complaining LOL. i guess im just surprised i could actually do it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif i have been dreading that move because i thought it would hurt but it wasnt really that bad.
