starting again after a long break and a few injuries
Hey! So I am back in the land of pole and am starting the 30 day programme again. I used to pole a few years back, but stopped after I had hurt my ribs (firstly intercostal strain, then broken due to a chiro…), and then falling off the pole at the studio and breaking my coccyx which took 18 months to heal.
I have since moved countries and ended up with a really sore hip a year ago which after 2 MRI’s, ultrasound, steroid injection into the joint, was diagnosed as hip labral tear & bursitis. At one stage my specialist asked me to book an appointment with a surgeon but changed his mind 2 months ago. I have had so much physical therapy in the past year. But I am on the mend! A hip labral tear cannot self repair unfortunately so I have had to learn to use other muscles. I can walk now without any pain and even jog! I think I will never be 100% back to normal but I will do what I can, and know when to stop. Apparently 1/3 of us have hip labral tears and most of those people aren’t aware of it. I didn’t fall into that category- at one stage I couldn’t walk more than 10 metres without limping, I couldn’t climb stairs without crying… I am very aware of my hips now. I have to stop the moment they ‘click’ as that aggravates the area. I guess I won’t be doing any high kicks or splits in the future, nor will I be able to exercise for long periods of time but at least I am doing something to try to keep fit.
