  • straight leg shouldermount?

You know the move where they hold themselves out off the pole at a downward angle from shouldermount position, bodywave, then do a full shouldermount up?  Can't seem to find a vid right now, but I know I've seen it.  Any tips?  I can do a straight leg shouldermount from sitting, but standing (let alone holding that angle) I can't seem to keep my back from collapsing back into the pole…

To hold the arch in your back, you need to really engage through the biceps (assuming you are using double cupped)– effectively you are doing a shoulder mount, but you are relaxing through the core so that your hips stay behind while you pull your chest up.

I'd recc that you work split grip/forearm grip upright body waves to get the movement in your muscle memory before you try it in a shoulder mount.

I can do the sm bodywave and I can do the shoulder mount but I can't do them both together 'cos I find the bodywave wrecks my abs (in a good way!),  working them so much more than just the sm would. And like Amy says, really pull in through the biceps!

hm, that wasn't very clear, sorry- holding the arch isnt relaxing through the entire core– it's relaxing your abs and engaging in your back (erectors).

perfect tip amy! I was able to hold it out and do a super sad wave, lol.

sassafrassle – i know what you mean… holy upper abs!

Any tips for then shouldermounting after the wave? Or is it just practice and condition?

    It’s just conditioning 🙂
