To studio owners: please give me details about your insurance. What company writes the liability insurance? What is the annual cost? How broad is the coverage? And liability wavers where did you get yours or did you have to pay to have them written? Professional performers: do you carry your own insurance too?

Second that on the insurance. We worked with this guy to be certain that the coverage that is needed IS provided. Many policies have wording that will come back to haunt you if there is a claim and the insurance company tries to get out of it. Watch out for policies that cover you for "dance' without saying the word pole, or some that say "gymnastics" is excluded as this can exclude pole dancing since you are using an apparatus to do tricks. A lot of agents will tell you you're covered but in the end you may not be.

Also it's one of the few policies (and the only pole policy I know of) which actually covers your defense costs if you have to go to court!

We paid to get our waiver written. We also provide it to our students who get certified through our program now.
