visible veins from poling?
Posted by ladycavendish on October 21, 2011 at 8:41 pmI've noticed that my veins are becoming incresingly visible after each pole session. My legs, my forearms, my shoulders, and even a little on my face. Does any one know what causes this? The veins will fade a little after a night's rest, but are still visible. I'm only 26, so I don't expect this to be a result of ageing… I am just curious whether anyone else notices the same thing and if anyone has suggestions to reduce the visibility of veins?
Joyful dancing, everyone!

Well, are you finding yourself with very little fat? I know that people who don't have a lot of body fat tend to be rather vein-y, and I would imagine that if you're working out, your cardiovascular system is working hard, so your veins would be filled with more blood!
Just my guess, anyways. Oo;

Hi Runemist,
Thanks for the input. I'm rather thin, but am getting veins in area where I've got more cushion too. It may be a circulation problem. I was just curious if it happens to anyone else.

Most likely it is from your body regulating your body temperature. When you're hot (due to temp or working out, etc) you'll notice more viens because they move a little closer to the surface to allow for faster heat transfer out of your body to keep you in the proper temp range for your body to function efficiently.

Hi FreetheSun– yes, that definitely makes sense. I wonder, however, why the veins stay visible–I hope it's not permanent, but I discover more veins after each pole session, and they've not gone away : (

How regularly do you work out and how long have you been doing it? If you've work out fairly regularly with pole and didn't do much of strength and stamina building before pole, then it could just be your body adjusting to a more efficient blood flow along with the temp regulation. You said you're rather thin so you are more prone to them showning normally. If you're a pale pasty whitey like me than they'll show more then too. They typically are more prominant where the skin is thin and at your joints. I wouldn't be too concerned, but you know yourself body better but if you're concerned, you can always talk to your doctor.

Hi FreetheSun,
Yes, I think you've got it right. I'm thin and pasty, and although I've always been strong, I've never been as strong as I've become through poling (and i used to weight train–there is nothing like poling!). The veins aren't aesthetically pleasing, but if they indicate better blood flow, it's all good.

I know what you mean. I'm a swimmer but contray to most swimmers, almost all my power came from my core and legs. With pole my arms have become overall stronger and I notice I can see the viens around my shoulders and chest more. Well that combined with the fact I've moved away from sunshine and am even paler than I thought possible. Sad day.
Anyway, keep an eye on them, just in case, and if you find you are still concerned about them talk to your doc or maybe even a dermatologist. But it sounds like you should be fine. Happy poling! 😀

I am curious abou this too! I have the same issue but I'm 40 so mine is probably age related..but all my research leads to low body fat and genetics. I did ask my Dr. about it and she just said "do you work out a lot? lift weights?" – unfortunately I don't find it attractive at all:( but it won't stop me from poling!! Is common with other polers?!?

Hi Staygold, it's definitely a problem that I have, and it is frustrating. I've been taking "Nature's Way" Leg Vein vitamins. I've been taking it for about a week or two now, and the veins on my legs have actually diminished in appearance! It's not perfect and I haven't seen much of a change on other parts of my body, but it does seem to be effective for the legs…at least initially. Worth a try, but it's not FDA approved since its homeopathic. I bought mine from amazon. I've also been told that skin tanners work, but I'm reluctant to allow those chemicals to seep into my skin.
