what kind of video would YOU like to see?
Posted by amy on June 24, 2010 at 10:59 pmhey ladies! just wondering– if you were going to check out a pole dancing studio’s website, what kind of videos would make you more inclined/excited to take lessons from there? or– what kind of videos do you just plain enjoy the most?
-hip hop music, more clubby, more hair tosses and hip rolls and sexy movement, more flashy tricks
OR
-something a little harder and funkier/darker, to something like santigold or a perfect circle, more dancey and stylized, more dramatic tricks with more musicality
OR
-something a little more graceful, to more melodic music, slow and controlled movement and more fluidity, more emotive
ANY advice is much appreciated!!! thanks in advance https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Personally, I like all the options, but lean more towards the second option (more dramatic tricks to songs like santigolds) and I also like the smooth, controlled, melodic ones.
Well, I wasn’t that helpful was I? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif -
I wanna see all three. It’s good to know a studio can handle multiple styles! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Hhmm…when I was still a non-poler (the first time I saw pole dancing), I love no 2.
But, right now I’m doing it, I love no 3.
I guess you are trying to get some sort of survey of what attracts ppl to a studio to learn pole dancing? If it’s possible, probably all three choices sounds like a good idea? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_idea.gif
Let us know what’s your final decision then. Good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif -
my studio asked me to put together a little vid so that it’s under my instructor bio section! i can’t put three, so i was going to put a long dance (3-4 min) to one song… i could do 3 short clips to different songs and put them together but that seems a little too much….

Yeah, lets go for trip hop.
That way you can combine 1&2 and if it has an artsy fartsy breakdown you can throw in some 3.

For your instructor’s bio – interesting! Agree – getting in all 3 styles in is difficult, not mentioning having to choose the right song! Which 3 styles you personally love best? If you choose the style which you feel suits you best, I think you have a better chance in bringing out your own personality & dance style in your vid. Who knows, probably when one potential student sees your vid, she would go like "Wow, I wanna’ be just like her!" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I agree with stardust. I really don’t care what kind of song/style that is up. You know when someone is feeling what they are doing vs just putting on a show. Quite honestly that video you have of your warm up where you are dancing in yoga pants would real me in. You have such a fluidity and raw sexiness about you in that video. Plus for someone who is just beginning they can look at that and think "I could do that!!". While big tricks are impressive for those of us familiar with pole, I would think it may scare some people away, or make them come in and say "I want to learn this" even though there is no way they have the strength to do so.

i can get in the groove of all three styles given the right song– i love them all! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
chem, i will DEFINITELY include basic spins, floor/wall work, and transitions– you know i’m all about that! and thanks for the awesome compliment re: that other video i did… only question is, which one do you mean? i’m wearing sweatpants in almost all of them! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
i filmed a few tricks last night (got interrupted https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif ) and had my boyfriend watch the clip to see which tricks he thought were coolest. interestingly, he wasn’t that intrigued by the jade (didn’t think it was a hard trick??) but really liked the floorwork. TYPPPICAL. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

It was called "freestyle warmup". I don’t think you threw a single "trick", but I am still trying to figure the drunken spin to the ground that you did in it. Of course I cannot view the video here at work or I would tell you which one I am talking about.(ya know, every time I do that I hear my English teachers harping on me…sad!!)

i’ll show you that trick in august! i just fell into it in the video, but i would say it’s a back hook with the outside leg straight and on the ground the entire time.
i recorded it! i tried to combine #1 and #2 but it was not one of my best efforts =( also i couldn’t do any spins bc it was SO HOT my hadns were super slippery! =( ah well. it’s posted in the vids section if anyone wants to see, not sure when it will be live on the studio website but i’ll have to film a replacement (better) video soon! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

Amy don’t be so critical! All of your vids are just mezmorizing to watch.
Personally I think demo vids should mix it up with a few really great impressive moves but mostly simpler work. The students really like to see that their instructors (or potential instructors) can do great stuff but then they should see a lot of easier moves that inspires them to believe they can do it too.
Your vids always make me want to get up and dance!
